I missed it too! Should've twigged that with a loco at each end it might reverse short at Branksome and that is what indeed happened. C'est la vie!

At least I got some photos of the Class 444 with rainbow ends at Poole......

It appears there’s been an SPZ this week to allow AC 442 testing. There’s a 5Z00 at Weymouth as I type.

I wonder if anyone has actually been out on the ground to see exactly what the stock is, whether a 442 or 455?
Well it's come out of Bournemouth depot so probably 442.
I do remember 455s performing some passing runs recently, but I don't know if they are kept at bomo or sent down from London when required.
Either way, there's nothing else showing on the diagram currently, right up as far as Southampton. So it's likely testing alone.

2419 has gone to Weymouth tonight with 5901 & 5739 providing the tow to Weymouth. Seen going down through Moreton earlier

Many thanks.

Not sure if that's the first time a 442(AC) has finally started testing but good it's got going.

The 5Z00 timings seem to suggest it was back in the depot a few hours later so wonder if any testing of the 442 alone was done.

depot rumour is there was a paperwork issue and the 442 had to return to Bournemouth before testing could take place.

Absolutely! Has that sort of coupling ever happened before?
I can't say I've ever heard these two classes coupling before, but I think tightlock to buckeye has been done in the past, with an adaptor. Wasn't it called a mushroom pin or something?

on my 442 LOR training from a few years ago we were told that the buckeyes and tightlocks in this config could couple without any adapters, but that there was a speed restriction applied in this configuration. Also not sure how the 455/442 electrical connections play with each other or if they would even bother trying to jumper the units up that way!

I don’t think it needs an adapter, 442s were occasionally found attached to a 400 or a 73.

AC 442s now have 42-way jumpers, same as 455s

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the SWR unit numbers- does this mean an AC 442 coupled to an AC 455?

I'm guessing the 455's and the 442's have a similar if not the same traction package (the AC ones that is) and as such coupling the two is akin to coupling a 444 to a 450, different top speed (and probably acceleration/gearing/kW) but so long as you don't exceed the maximum speed of the 455 you are fine.

Anyone know what today's 5Y00 0857 Weymouth - Woking (via Guildford) and 5Y01 return 1303 Woking - BM Depot (also via Guildford) moves are to do with?

That's usually just a cl.450 run. Stock move / route knowledge, something like that. I often see 5Y01 on my travels.

Just a route knowledge retention run for Bournemouth drivers, runs daily, booked a single Class 444 at present.

Should be another southbound drag Monday. 57312 went to Wolverton this afternoon taking a 455 up, and looks like it's stopping there til Monday morning so should be that hauling unless it's called away.
Unit 442413.
.
0928 Wolverton Centre Sidings to Bournemouth T&R.S.M.D
.
There is also a light engine path from Wolv to Leicester LIP in the system for that afternoon too, guessing that's incase the drag is canned.
