Many thanks for the info - I’m guessing that is the class fully built now then ?

101 and 112 in service tomorrow all going well and all /1 units in service within 4 weeks or so.

710114/15/18/22 are all in london and the remaining two units 106/110 are in melton still to be delivered south.

5-car testing commences later this month around the horsham area.

Indeed been that way for a very very long time, they were just scattered around the country in various sidings and derby waiting for the for software situation to be resolved. They would have all been in service by June had covid not killed the training courses, that has been and still is the limiting factor. Still not finished, so the units trickle in as the number of trained people increases.

Is it likely that there will be a new timetable on the Lea Valley lines in December based on the 710's improved performance?

For instance, currently Stamford Hill is not called on peak services to Cheshunt. Would this be likely to change?

Wasn't that answered earlier this year? Replaced by 710271 and not needed yet.

It is obvious that priority has been given to the 710/1s since the 710/2 fleet got to the number needed to operate the Gospel Oak to Barking and Watford Junction to Euston routes.

Yes, it is obvious that priority has been given 710/1s, but what gave rise to my question wasn't 710/1 progress, it was that I've recently see 710272, 276 and 277 at Willesden, and was curious as to why 256 appears to be still outstanding. Apologies if this has been answered up thread, but this thread's becoming quite large and time consuming to scroll through.

No and no.

1.The slight increase in performance is negligible. Just means trains are more or less ontime now as opposed to the edge of on time. The current timetable was bordering ambitious for 315/317s.

2. The peak XX22/XX52 miss cambridge heath/stamford hill to ensure a minimum turnaround at Cheshunt, so a return path can squeeze back before the XX11/XX41 GA Hertford East services traverse the junction at Cheshunt. Nothings changed in that regard.

256 was the first unit to be built and used for testing being delivered further down the line when delivered behind a number of units for acceptance and then service introduction. it is very rare to get the first unit of the line and introduced to service first, and will normally go back through a retrofit/mod program to bring it up to the standard of the remaining fleet and then delivered further down the pecking order.

from my experience of new train delivery, vehicles can be built in unit formation where the unit sticks together going down the line and the pops out the end with a specific unit number or they are built as bodyshell numbers and then assembled into a unit when the vehicles have gone through the relevant build and mod plans to bring them up to standard. i always remember from the class 450 introduction that at one point we had a formed 4-car 450009 in germany at the test track and a 450009 in the uk. the german 450009 then became a different unit and vehicle split up and used in different formations whilst the uk 450009 entered service. ironically class 450 bodyshells 0001, 0002 and 0003 are included in unit 450109 and not 450001 as you would have expected.

anyway..... back to 710’s!

May have missed this in earlier posts but does anyone know whether the Romford to Upminster line is still getting a 710 (and if so when)? As it only needs one unit I am just a bit surprised that they haven't introduced them yet even if its just to build up train mileage. Or is it all tied into when the 315s are leaving the Liverpool St to Shenfield branch?

Yes it will get 710s. It is complicated as we currently hire in MTR drivers. Our drivers based at Stratford *should* be taking over from December but require route learning both of the branch and to Ilford depot. They already sign 710s though.
MTR drivers might have to sign 710s to cover later this autumn as the 315s should be all off lease very soon which gives a nice headache!

Presumably they will need to learn the whole route Liverpool Street to Upminster via Romford?

What is the status of the whole LO fleet in general now? How many units to enter service? Or is it just the WA units noted above?

Apart from the last 4 710/1s (106,110,114,115) mentioned above, we still have 4 car 710256,270,272,273 to enter service and the 5 car ones 710274 to 279.

So 14 units in total to come in? Approx 2 being accepted per week?
