We next move to Scotland for the next journey.....

This is number 1234 in the series so far.....

The journey starts at the closed station of Bankend
It follows the line of the CR Coalburn Branch Line
It then follows the line of the CR Hamilton Branch Line...link line only, no closed stations
It then follows the line of the Hamilton and Strathaven Railway
It then follows the line of the Darvel and Strathaven Railway
It then follows the line of the G&SWR Darvel Branch Line
It then follows the line of the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway...via the Montgreenan loop line
It then follows the line of the Glasgow and Paisley Joint Railway
It then follows the line of the City of Glasgow Union Railway
It then follows the line of the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway...via the Ratho loop line
It then follows the line of the Edinburgh Suburban and Southside Junction Railway...via Gorgie East (which is accessed from Haymarket)
It then follows the line of the North British Railway Main Line
It then follows the line of the Berwickshire Railway
The journey ends at the closed station of Earlston

The first closed station on this journey is Bankend

That was not a station, but an important junction that gave access to both the Lesmahagow Railway and the CR Mid-Lanark Lines. First open in 1905, it was eventually closed in 1949.

After we left the closed station of Larkhall East on the CR Coalburn Branch Line, we would pass through the open station of Chatelherault then on the CR Hamilton Branch Line through the open station of Hamilton West which would give access to the line of the Hamilton and Strathaven Railway, where the first closed station we would meet is that of ......
