I'm not sure if this will work, but I was wondering if it was possible to play Connect 4 with the rail network. The rules are very simple. Can you find something that connects four consecutive stations on the same line (it is Connect 4, after all)?

It could be something about the station names, the stations themselves or whatever you like, but originality is encouraged, so you need to do something a bit more than just picking four stations in a row and saying they're served by the same TOC.

Good luck!!

This looks like a good idea for a quiz, so here it is. If potential quiz ideas can be sent to any Quizmaster in a Private Message from now on, that'd be great.

There are lots of interesting things that could 'connect' stations, but we're hoping there won't be too many like "Camborne, Hayle, St Erth and Penzance all contain the letter e" as that would get a bit ridiculous. Hopefully there'll be lots of originality, otherwise this isn't going to work.

How about:
Woldingham, Oxted, Hurst Green and Edenbridge Town all have tunnels between them.

Also, how about:-

Bodorgan
Ty Croes
Rhosneigr
Valley

Not only are they all request stops, but none have subways or bridges and passengers must use level/barrier crossings.

Where can you find four consecutive 'Road' stations?
Hi EM2,

We feel the quiz will work best in a way so you can suggest your connections rather than make them questions, please can we use this method instead?

Also, how about:-

Bodorgan
Ty Croes
Rhosneigr
Valley

Not only are they all request stops, but none have subways or bridges and passengers must use level/barrier crossings.

Thank you 'Welshman' for your contribution  Looks good.

Cheers,

TP

Bit of a stretch, but Aberdour, Burntisland, Kinghorn and Kirkcaldy (only just) all have speed limit reductions on their station approach in the 'down' direction - in the case of the first three, due to being built on a sharp curve.

Hopefully still correct,

Drumgelloch, Caldercruix, Blackridge and Almadale are the newest stations on national rail? (otherwise go for scotrail and all opened late ;) )

I was looking for 4 stations in a row where the managing TOC does not operate any trains but was stopped by Tamworth, quick open a station between Nuneaton and Liecester!

Portsmouth Arms, Umberleigh, Chapelton and Barnstaple all have three syllables in their name.

I really hope that's correct and at least slightly unusual...

Hamilton Square, James Street, Moorfields and Lime Street are all named after streets close to the River Mersey.

The shortest distance on the network which includes four consecutive stations is found between Whitchurch (Glamorgan) and Ty Glas which includes intermediate stations Rhiwbina and Birchgrove, coming in at 1mi 5 chains.

as are:

Oxford, Radley, Culham and Appleford (at one time they'd have alternated counties, too, but not any more)

Birmingham New Street, Smethwick Rolfe Street, Smethwick Galton Bridge and Sandwell & Dudley all have three words in their names.

what do you mean?
They need to be four consecutive stations, on the same line. Your examples are all on separate lines and are not consecutive.
For example, Walthamstow Central, Blackhorse Road, Tottenham Hale and Seven Sisters on the Victoria Line are all interchanges with National Rail/Overground services but not other Tube lines.

Similar to the "Road" one:

St Pancras International
Stratford International
Ebbsfleet International
Ashford International

are four consecutive stations with the word "International" in their names that are all served by Southeastern and at least one other operator (St Pancras: EMT among others; Stratford: DLR; Ebbsfleet: Eurostar; Ashford: Southern, Eurostar, FCC (Peak)).

Oxford,
Hanborough,
Combe,
Finstock,

are on alternating sides of the River Evenlode

Margate,Broadstairs,Dumpton Park & Ramsgate are all situated on the Isle of Thanet.*

* I am aware that the previous 2 stations to Margate are also but I had to pick 4. and yes, it is a pretty poor answer linking them.

Hadley Wood, New Barnet, Oakleigh Park and New Southgate all have four extent platforms, but only ever use two of them (AFAICS)
