COVID-19 (Coronavirus) temporary sub-forum

Dear All,

The Forum Staff have decided that during the current pandemic that, as this represents such a large fraction of discussion currently, that a dedicated sub-forum is warranted. Our intention behind this sub-forum is to try and contain all the thread directly related to COVID-19 in one place. We hope this to mean several things:

1. It will be easy for people who are interested in the topic to find relevant threads by having them in one place.
2. By having them in one place it will hopefully cut down on the amount of duplication that we've seen in recent weeks.
3. For people who want a break from COVID-19 it will hopefully make it easier for those people to avoid threads where that is the main subject.

This new sub-forum will contain railway subject and non-railway subjects so please do keep that in mind when viewing and posting. The Forum Staff will keep the situation under review and we look forward to the day when we can disband the sub-forum entirely.

Customers should be advised, that as most of the discussion in this forum is more in line with what would ordinarily be in the ‘General Discussion’ section, the main forum staff team have decided that the General Discussion Moderators (mag_seven and Cowley) will all have moderation powers in this forum.

As the situation with Covid has continued to evolve the Forum Staff have kept this section under review. As you will be aware, in September 2022 we began the process to ramp down the activity in the section as Covid has begun to play a lesser role in daily life and more countries have relaxed restrictions. As stated when this forum was opened in March 2020, it was only temporary and the forum staff team have now decided that it's time to bring the section to a close.

This means that all remaining threads in the section are now locked. We will temporarily archive the section and its content as a sub-forum of General Discussion and in the next few months we will relocate it to a new permanent home. The content will be retained and can still be viewed by anyone who has access to the section.

We are aware that are there are couple of ongoing discussions so we have decided to establish two new threads in the relevant sub-forums. A thread about Covid restrictions abroad (focussed on information for travellers only) which can be found here and a thread about the remaining a few remaining domestic issues related to Covid which can be found here.

As previously advised, as the Covid-19 discussion forum has now been archived, we have now created a new ‘Archive’ menu option which can be accessed under ‘Forums’ at the top of every page. This takes you to our Archive category in which you can find the Photo of the Month and Covid-19 forums. Note that at present if you did not have access to either forum then you will not retain archive access, but we cannot guarantee this will be the case moving forward.
