Does anyone know which working are planned to be HSTs on Bank Holiday Saturday (29th Aug)? The usual services are currently shown as going to Paignton instead of Plymouth but XC havn't released tickets yet.

Cross Country won't be serving Torbay with HSTs this year. Today the HSTs are the 06:11 Leeds to Plymouth and the 07:02 Edinburgh to Plymouth (which under normal circumstances would be the 06:02 Glasgow to Paignton).

Usually

0611 Leeds-Plymouth 1225 Plymouth to Edinburgh

0702 Edinburgh- Plymouth 1627 ply-Leeds

This is the diagram for Saturday till further notice. It seems hasn’t changed since last timetable change.

That weekend (29th) and the weekend after are still a bit of a mess, no proper times uploaded so no reservations etc, what I can glean is that all Derbyto Birmingham services are via Lichfield, calling there and all trains call Burton and Tamworth.

That’s true. Tickets released one or two weeks before travel.

Hello,

Should be anything with the headcodes of 1V44, 1S51, 1V50, 1E63. On the day changes do happen, so don't trust me on these. The best way to check is use http://iris2.rail.co.uk/tiger/, and select it's next calling point. Then click on the Detailed Summary with train graphic and see if it has 7 coaches :)

Not on a sunday it isn't. 1V48 + 1S55 probably.

I would love to travel on one - is Cross Country compulsory reservation at the moment? Or can you just get on a hopefully find an empty two seater?

Technically compulsory reservation, you can reserve one 10 mins before departure. I haven't been though, unless I know the service is going to be a single voyager, but I always aim for an HST or a double. Most services are practically empty between new street and temple meads, in my experience. Even at rush hour.

How do you book if you have an open ticket? I cannot see anyway to book a reservation without buying a ticket. Apologies, if I am being stupid!

You can book a reservation online, by social media, by phone, by text or at a ticket office.

Thank you and I have just heard from a friend that the Cross Country HSTs are a very comfortable and nice train compared to the “other rubbish” (his words!) He is not an enthusiast but just someone who had to go by train as his wife had the car!

Monday 24th to Friday 28th August

Some rare track bashing for a few XC drivers:

1M49 1153 PLY to BHM via Camp Hill

5T61 1540 BHM to BHM via Five Ways, Lifford Curve and Camp Hill

1V61 1642 BHM to PLY via Camp Hill

Would anyone be able to advise on northbound HSTs from Birmingham this Saturday (5th September)?

Saturdays seem to regularly be 1S51 and 1E63 so I'd say they are your best bet unless someone else has insider gen.

Notice that two HSTs leave Plymouth within half an hour of each other today!

11:53 to Birmingham and 12:27 to Edinburgh. Then the 15:27 to Leeds of course.

The 11.53 is running as 1M49 for Driver route retention and runs out and back via the Camp Hill line.

That explains the XC HST departing from P10 at Glasgow Central , rare to depart from that side.

According to Realtime trains, 43207 was with 43304 if this helps. I'm not sure which XC0x though.

I highly doubt there would have been a set swap involving the same PCs but different stock.
