Very nice. Reminds me of my layout when I get over-exuberant and put so much stock on it that the ends get too full for me to actually move anything between them

More cool photos and another interesting scenario from your layout @43055. I like the charter set: it really shows off the length of that station! It's set-ups like yours which are giving me ideas for my own layout.I present a Class 800 sandwich.....37405 laying over in Platform 2 having arrived from Bristol on the LSL Charter which will layover in the sidings tonight before departing in the morning. 800004 prepares to depart for London on platform 3 while 800010 has just arrived on platform 1.

We're in the same boat then @reddragon - the only way I'll be able to afford them is by selling all the models I have now at ludicrous (or as eBay calls them, "normal") prices and even then I'd only be able to afford the two end cars...2 class 800s! I haven't got my 1st yet!

Haha! Either that or I could sell prints of my railway photos... They seem to go for lots of money on eBay now.Peter
What I did at your age was collect things that were rare / not collected and saved them for 30 years and sold them at hugely inflated prices
I got £35 for some free Green Line leaflets and £200 for some old bus tickets. You just need to get something modern that will be collectable in 30 years!
I had thought of getting a 395 at some stage - they look to be decent models - but if they're essentially extended pocket-rockets then I'll pass for now!OK, buying a Class 800 today is a bit of an issue . . . Class 395s are cheap but would exit you track layout as they tend to travel in one direction very fast
You do need long straights for them and easy bends! So far my fastest timed is the new Hornby HST at 246 mphHaha! Either that or I could sell prints of my railway photos... They seem to go for lots of money on eBay now.

I remember you mentioning that on another thread. Surely that HST has good potential for HS2...You do need long straights for them and easy bends! So far my fastest timed is the new Hornby HST at 246 mph

Thanks! I always wanted a long layout to run HST's etc. and platforms 1 & 2 is planned around holding a 2+7 HST (or an 8 car unit) which is around 200m in model form. Platform 3 is designed to be long enough for a 5 car 800 or a 2+4 HST which is 130m in model form while platform 4 is just 85m but you can fit all the passenger doors of a 220 in.More cool photos and another interesting scenario from your layout @43055. 2 class 800s! I haven't got my 1st yet!
I did exactly that Peter. The first one (800004) was part exchange and the second (800010) was a charismas present which I put some money towards. At the time I had lots of random stock so most of it went on part exchanging for the GWR stock that I now have. We're in the same boat then @reddragon - the only way I'll be able to afford them is by selling all the models I have now at ludicrous (or as eBay calls them, "normal") prices and even then I'd only be able to afford the two end cars...

Thanks! What's a GWS set? Those two shots look the business @43055, especially the second one under the canopy.
Reminds me of the GWS set in the 1980s.
What's a GWS set?
And it might be worth saying the Great Western Society are the group which owns Didcot Railway Centre. That coach set looks brilliant - it would be lovely to see that on the mainline today but Mr Health and Mr Safety don't like wooden-bodied coaches sadly - as you describeI was trying to find a link for it last night but couldn’t.
Basically there was a rake of GWR coaches (mainly wooden bodied ones) that were mainline registered in the 1970s and early 1980s which they used for railtours, all in chocolate and cream and very lovely they were too.
The reason I couldn’t find a link was because it was actually the Severn Valley Railways stock and not the GWS (Great Western Society).
Anyway can you imagine having something like this out on the network today..?

My platforms are designed for 8 coaches minimum, but some can do 10-11. My HST is a 2+7 and fits some platforms. The up main & down relief platform loops can do 20-25 coaches, just 10 in platform. I was going to measure them! Thanks! I always wanted a long layout to run HST's etc. and platforms 1 & 2 is planned around holding a 2+7 HST (or an 8 car unit) which is around 200m in model form. All you need now is a full 16 coach sleeper train or like you say 2×5 car 800s.My platforms are designed for 8 coaches minimum, but some can do 10-11. My HST is a 2+7 and fits some platforms. The up main & down relief platform loops can do 20-25 coaches, just 10 in platform. I was going to measure them!
I'm just imagining 2x5 car 800's
Still not much progress (not run anything much as well!) but I have done some more of the park area with most of the grass now in place and some more trees and bushes around the edges.

Like the 180's before them.... you'll be going nowhere.

Haha! I love it. I might head down to Oldmoor Junction later today to see what GWR have sorted out down there...Like the 180's before them.... you'll be going nowhere.

Website will be updated soon A man in a van will on the way to check them soon....When will you finish your inspections of the 800's and get them back into passenger service? Haven't seen any messages on your website .
Looking good. That really adds to the scene.

Thanks! Might need to borrow some of the heritage stock for a bit @Peter C!Looking good. The comment about the 800s made me chuckle somewhat.

Don't worry some help is at hand. DRS have offered 68008 and 68019 to run a replacement service with 6 mk3's in a right mix of liveries from FGW, EMT and MML. Now I know the reason Hornby put buffers on the TGS's.

I'll take the Pullmans. Got a spare 37 at the moment or the 57 in the day which could pick them up.Haha - love it!
I've just had Oldmoor Railway Centre on the phone, and they say they can sort six Pullmans for tomorrow - assuming paths and traction can be found to move them. I've suggested the GWR 0-4-0: it's not gone down well...
-Peter
Another lash up coming up (could be predicting the future!)That’s actually a great looking lash-up!
Haha Oldmoor's got 4 37s, but none of them are working at the moment - we might need Dale End Lane Control to send a 57!I'll take the Pullmans. Got a spare 37 at the moment or the 57 in the day which could pick them up.
Wow - impressed you captured all that. There really is a lot of work going on with all this, isn't there? Reminds me - I must pop over to Oldmoor Junction at some point and see what's happening.Went down to see some interesting moves at Dale End Lane earlier. First up 0Z77 arrived from Laira formed of 43041 and 43005. These stopped in the center road before heading into the carriage sidings.
View attachment 95925
43005 was then dropped off and 43041 made it's way to platform 4
View attachment 95926
A little later 37405 arrived from Crewe (5Z37) with 5 former EMR mk3's.
View attachment 95927
The local 08 removed the rear barrier wagon to allow the 37 to push the coaches onto 43005.
View attachment 95928
View attachment 95929
With the 37 removed 43041 made it's way to the other end and now a full 2+5 HST is formed and ready to work alongside the 68's towards London.

I still want a 'Castle' from Didcot on Paddington - Hereford runs...Reading the 800s page, nothing is off the table from EMUs to Cardiff, LSL hire ins, old HSTs returning, its crazy!
Tomorrow is Class 387s Paddington to Swindon, a handful of 800s, XCs Plymouth to Swindon and Castle HSTs.I still want a 'Castle' from Didcot on Paddington - Hereford runs...
