Got some extra WMT information (friend of a friend is a guard there):

Northampton
Traction: 350

Northampton - London Euston
Northampton - Birmingham New Street
Rugby - Milton Keynes Central (avoiding Northampton)
Rugby - Crewe

Watford Junction
Traction: 350

Northampton - London Euston
Watford Junction - St Albans Abbey
Is it just Bletchley that sign 319s now?

Northern Buxton conductors, now sign Manchester Airport - Wilmslow via Styal too

They’ve gained a lot of their Preston/Blackpool work back too.

Not on the list in the OP for Buxton but they also sign Wigan North Western-Preston. They have always have signed it but it lapsed over the pandemic but have more booked work again now.

Not sure if Buxton drivers still sign Wigan-Preston/Blackpool or Oxford Road-Wigan/Preston via Bolton anymore?

Northern guards based at Skipton also sign 195s, 150/1s and 150/2s, though with no booked work. They also sign Esholt Jct. to Dockfield Jct., which is not explicitly mentioned in your description (though taken as read!).

Ah fair enough, didn't realise you were in the role yourself. No harm in learning Perry Bar - Soho, it's not exactly a long and taxing route, but you're not likely to see a TfW service down there. It was deemed to difficult to keep drivers competent on both Bescot routes, so it was taken off about 4 years ago now IIRC. Even with Aston, there aren't many drivers left who can go that way.

I have also just had to route learn Bescot (via Aston, mind) as a Crewe guard at TfW, so Crewe still sign Shrewsbury - International via Stour & Bescot & Aston.

It's an odd one, I signed it last year (Chester based), 6 months came and went. Got my refresh request back and told I didn't have to sign it anymore.

Another lad on my course (Crewe based) never signed it originally at all last year as he was told it wasn't required!

So as it stands TFW Chester Guards no longer sign Bescot diversion or Chester-Manchester via Northwich as of Dec 2022 timetables.

Yes, Crewe guards have kept their Bescot knowledge, even though the chances of them ever using it are slim.

I didn't realise till I checked on RTT that the Morning Airport via Northwich isn't running any more. So have TfW given up on Cheshire Lines completely now?

Definitely a bizarre one that we’ve kept Bescot given how few times we go to Birmingham compared to Chester & Shrewsbury!

Yeah I believe so, there were two starters on my course for Chester and they aren’t learning Cheshire lines I don’t believe

Apparently so, whilst all CTR Guards did sign the route there's only about 10 drivers who signed it. Nothing booked to operate up there now!

Give it time, it really wouldn't surprise me if it comes off altogether soon. There's only a handful of Shrewsbury drivers left who sign it and you can't do much without them....

Interesting. Would also explain why the Saturday night shunt from Platform 13 to 6 at Piccadilly has moved from being a Chester driver to a Crewe driver. No need for Chester to sign the main shed at Piccadilly any more if they don't sign the Cheshire lines.

Do any of the crews who routinely work the Liverpool - Cleethorpes services sign via Newton le Willows to allow short notice diversions? I assume not given only the EMR trains went that way on Sunday just gone.

I think Liverpool and Airport do, but the former don't have much work yet and the latter share the rest with Sheffield.

Inspired by @craigybagel's excellent thread on the driver depots, routes, and traction cards, I thought I would create one for guards too. This thread will eventually cover all train operating companies, and will detail the routes you may sign (work) for each depot.

As with the driver thread, I'll be heavily reliant on contributions from other forum members, and will update the thread as soon as I see submissions. Whilst I'll try to keep the list as up to date as I can, the information may not immediately disseminate from the comments into this thread. As of December 2021, we are still looking for information of the following depots:

If you wish to retain your anonymity, feel free to private message me and I’ll add your contribution without your name being public.

If you're reading this as an applicant, good luck :)

Re to greater Anglia if not added ,

720s are DOO operationally, yes they have a guard key for door close however it isn't used day to day only for competency with degrading working.

Wickford still use 321 rennatus and 720 but again due to ASDO , when going on Braintree branch there isn't a need to lock out coaches anymore etc.

745 , Norwich and London have a degraded diagrams to keep competency.

Now we have 755 X 3 , so either a 4+4+4 or 3+4+3 or even 3+3+3 , there is one diagram rostered to have 4+4 but it's stock availability more often than not 745/1xx gets used or (Stansted Units).

The 720 have been surprisingly good with sun bleaching , it's the 755 that have issues on east Suffolk and rural routes.

Greater Anglia

Norwich

Norwich - Sheringham
Norwich - Cambridge
Norwich - Great Yarmouth via Acle/Reedham
Norwich - Lowestoft
Lowestoft - Ipswich via Saxmundham
Ipswich - Felixstowe
Norwich - Liverpool Street GEML

Ipswich

Ipswich - Felixstowe
Ipswich - Cambridge
Ipswich - Peterborough(Via Soham, not 100% if via Waterbeach to Ely)
Ipswich - Lowestoft Via Saxmundham
Lowestoft - Norwich
Manningtree - Harwich Town
Ipswich - Norwich GEML
Ipswich - Liverpool Street GEML

Colchester

Manningtree - Harwich Town
Marks Tey - Sudbury
Colchester - Clacton/Walton on the Naze
Manningtree - Liverpool Street GEML
Witham - Braintree

Not sure if they sign all the way to Ipswich and Drivers only go to Peterborough

Clacton

Colchester - Clacton/Walton on the Naze
Marks Tey - Sudbury
Witham - Braintree
Colchester - Liverpool Street GEML

Wickford

Wickford - Southminster

Liverpool Street

Liverpool Street - Ipswich - Norwich GEML
Colchester has 2 driver links , Peterborough link and it should have a guard regardless for revenue duties.

Northern changes-
Wigan Wallgate has lost Manchester to Stockport at the Dec22 timetable change, new starts no longer route learning this.
Also at Wigan, Preston to Morecambe and Barrow is Link 1 and 2, link 3 is the other link.
Barrow ex TPE now have a diagram with work between Preston and Blackpool on 331 traction.
Harrogate depot? Last time I looked they only signed Leeds to York via Harrogate.

Exeter conductors, all links (1 to 5) sign Exeter to Okehampton. Links 1 to 4 sign Exeter to Bristol (including Weston avoider) and Exeter to Plymouth.

The majority of Exeter TMs do not sign Exeter to Okehampton (apart from those who were once Conductors).

For GWR:

769s are no longer going into service, so the traction can be removed from Reading.

Gloucester and Penzance Conductors are no more. They're all now Train Managers.

Swindon sign 387 and 80X

All changing to OBSs. So the only conductors would be based at Selhurst & Eastbourne (small numbers) now?
I assume so. It is also my understanding that Southern no longer run services to Guildford and Milton Keynes. So no conductors on those routes either. Don't know if Selhurst route knowledge has been retained though for diversions etc. Can anyone else confirm?

If you are based at Cleethorpes, could you be on any of the routes listed in the top of this thread, so all the way through to Liverpool?

Selhrust only sign as far as Hemel Hempstead now but they also sign down to Uckfield as a diversionary so only up to MKC from Hemel is lost
