I mean, I don't think joe public really cares about what the train looks like.. DRS Branded Mk2s with Northern, Northern Branded 156s on TPE or East Midlands Trains HSTs on LNER.. as long as it departs and arrives on-time that's it.

I wouldn't know, given that I was about 7 when it ended. Not quite sure what the snarky attitude is about, for a whimsical and casual observation.
I agree with you, but I guess if you're used to things looking a certain way and associating that with what you need, then there's a potential area of short term confusion.

Seems daft to me that they should bother with repainting an entire fleet which is going to be replaced in the next few years anyway at all, let alone with materials that are apparantely lower quality than what they're replacing!
Oddly they seem to have retrospectively added the Stagecoach style window bands to the 180s; is that just to make them match the 222s? If so that's an impressive dedictation to consistency.

One of the replies on the tweet does day it is for constancy across the intercity fleet. Personally I like it.

I'm 99% certain that the window band is in fact just the firstgroup blue still, but there's just a negative effect where they haven't vinyled it white. There's an obvious seam in this picture that's level with the bottom of the band but the biggest giveaway is the window surrounds - those definitely are too fiddly for vinylling!

Yes i asked about that before. you can see more clearly on those pics they've basically cut a big hole in vinyl for window For me the blue looks out of place

Why would it catch fire?
I've got 5 hours on them now and the way some folks go on I should be medium rare by now!
We have two experienced fitters on loan, who inform us that every single incident where a fire was involved (post dynamic brake isolation) was directly a result of poor and incorrect maintenance.

The 180s are unfortunately famed for their unreliability, including a few fires with the units that are now with EMR in their previous use at Hull Trains. Hopefully Etches Park are able to match the reliability of the GC units at Crofton, EMR's fleet plans are rather reliant on it!
