The Southern ones don’t even have a replacement prepared yet that would enable them to be transferred to EMR, so that could be years
They’re due in 2022, as by then a replacement would have been found. I wouldn’t say it would take “years” to find a replacement, especially considering it will most likely be cascaded stock...

Probably will be a year or two away but I would expect there will be news on this when/if a GTR Direct Award is announced.

How many times have we had this discussion about the Southern turbostars now?

There is no planned replacement for them, and nothing that could sensibly replace them. The only solution is a tiny fleet of new-build, or electrifying the diesel branches on Southern, and both of those are going to take time, and might not happen.

Not this again... the Southern turbostars do not have to transfer, if a suitable replacement is found then they will transfer.

Just read on Twitter that as of 10th February, EMR HST 43302 has been getting painted into another Livery. They didn't mention which Livery.

The power car is being revealed on Friday. There is more discussion here from the bottom of page 34 onwards.

It will most probably be Intercity Swallow as it’s to be preserved by NRM - I can imagine it’ll be used for a farewell tour as well when it’s safe to do so.

incidentally - is it known if NRM are preserving any carriages to go with their class 43s - eg a 1st and std and maybe buffet car in close to original (so that would be ex EMR carriages) condition / seating? Mots people's experiences of trains is being in them after all - so carriages make sense if you are a museum telling a story...

The NRM's mk2 air con coach is one of a small batch refurbished for Great Western in the 90s with new seats etc in Fragonset fake Blue Pullman livery rather than one of the hundreds of broadly similar examples that still exist to this day.

Original interior is more important in some types of vehicle than others to them I imagine.

Unfortunately I don’t know - I only know that 43302 is being preserved as it holds the diesel locomotive speed record. I can imagine it will be paired with Sir Kenneth Grange in the great hall, but depends on when EMR release it.

Thanks - not much good in an HST line up however - I'm thinking the sort of display they have now, for example, of the 'Flying Scotsman' with eg an A4 or Deltic and one or 2 LNER teaks - ie the ability to create a display of a 1970s/80s train in say 50 to 60+ years time - as a national museum collection that being the sort of timeline thinking they need to (and must surely) think about

Absolutely stunning. The nameplate is a great addition. :D

Am I right in saying this may be in service tomorrow or at least sometime soon?
There is lots of talk on Facebook about it potentially being on the London end of 1B23 tomorrow although its not exactly clear how EMR will be announcing this or whether it is even an EMR power car still on their books.
