With the first 360 leaving Greater Anglia on path https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/R52088/2020-06-07/detailed I thought it were best to create a thread on them to track the progress.
That working appears to be showing as cancelled so it looks like 360105 is staying at Northampton for now.Has it (105 btw) actually left GA? Its potentially going back tomorrow - if does must be a specialist mod that can't be done at Ilford, not necessarily imminent to EMR.

That’s my understanding - no imminent arrivals to the new TOC. Just the technical mods being done prior to cascade.
What are the technical mods?
Upgrading to 110MPH Specification from the present 100. So it'll be similar mods to those carried out to London Midlands 350s.
That was before the coronavirus struck, which I'm fairly sure has led to the delay of the switch-on for the OLE (amongst other things, I'm sure!)Interesting that those are being carried out now then, at one point the suggestion was that the units would be pressed into service at EMR in the same state they left GA before eventually going for refurbishment and mods
Are these units getting any changes to their interiors? I assume they'll get EMR branded signage and exterior livery but are the seat covers or flooring being changed?
They need to be 110mph from the start. EMR have already said they won’t be refurbished from day one, so the mod programme needs to happen in advance of refurbishment.Interesting that those are being carried out now then, at one point the suggestion was that the units would be pressed into service at EMR in the same state they left GA before eventually going for refurbishment and mods
The plan is for an interior overhaul and 2+2 seating, at some point.
Is all of the of modification work ( up rating & internals) being done at Wolverton?
( i noticed a picture of one of these units being dragged through MK so this thread has answered my question!)
I don’t know about the internal works, but the modifications are being carried out by Siemens at their Northampton Depot (hence being dragged through MK). I don’t believe EMR have awarded any interior works contracts yet, more so given that they are only just coming up with a design for the 170s.
Northampton makes more sense in the context of the mods as it is where the 350s got the 110mph mods done. Thanks - assumed Wolverton!
It includes a change from 2+3 to 2+2 seating, and has been confirmed in previous EMR announcements and forum discussions (that you must have missed).I severely hope that's an actual interior overhaul, not an "add painfully bright lights, stick new covers on the seats and call it a day" interior overhaul, as favoured by Northern!
Indeed I had heard that EMR were refurbishing 360s for the Corby services but I missed the information about the seating, thanks very much!It includes a change from 2+3 to 2+2 seating, and has been confirmed in previous EMR announcements and forum discussions (that you must have missed).
The squirrel cage mod for 110mph is fairly quick and easy (compared to an interior refurb) and Northampton did all the 350 mods.Interesting that those are being carried out now then, at one point the suggestion was that the units would be pressed into service at EMR in the same state they left GA before eventually going for refurbishment and mods
The squirrel cage mod for 110mph
Thank goodness for 2+2 seating! Will make it much better. It includes a change from 2+3 to 2+2 seating, and has been confirmed in previous EMR announcements and forum discussions (that you must have missed).
The 'Squirrel Cage' is the rotating part of the AC motor. The what?!
Thank goodness for 2+2 seating! Will make it much better.
Will be bad enough the locals losing their Meridians without having 3+2 seats as well!

Are they not just going to take out the third seat on one side, leaving two per side (rather than replacing the seats)? All Desiros up to the 380s have had Grammar seats, but the city 70x ones have had Fainsas. Hopefully Grammar ones will be used and not the 2+2 Fainsa seating in the 800s.
Sometimes better the devil you know!I thought that passengers supposedly loathed and detested Meridians, will they not be holding celebrations at losing them? no doubt the opportunity of having a train with a squirrel cage mod will put a smile on their faces as well
The aisle would be huge! The width of a standard 2 + 2 seat is 3-4 inches wider with armrests too compared to a 3 + 2 layout that you can't even get a suitcase through the aisle and 3 people comfortably sat shoulder to shoulder on a 3 + 2 layout normally. Are they not just going to take out the third seat on one side, leaving two per side (rather than replacing the seats)?
I would expect they will keep the seats but make the layout 2+2 in standard with arm rests added - similar to the 350/1/3/4 fleets. The aisle would be huge! Anyone would be wishing for a class 222 Meridian
