I thought it might be useful to have a single place for the frequently requested diagrams for EMR with the introduction of the 170 and 180's and less HST's about. This can be updated when required to show the progress of the fleet change over the next few years. Hopefully this will be of use to some people.

Thank you for the info'; but is the route retention diagram a long standing one? Presumably it's for London crews, as the a.m. Corby - Derby (via Syston E & N) and p.m. Derby - Kettering via Melton are running at the moment. I realise it's not always as simple as it might look...

I thought it might be useful to have a single place for the frequently requested diagrams for EMR with the introduction of the 170 and 180's and less HST's about. This can be updated when required to show the progress of the fleet change over the next few years. Hopefully this will be of use to some people.

Thank you so much! Do you know if these remaining HST services will remain until May or could they be replaced with 180's over the coming months?

I'm really sorry for bringing up what probably is the biggest FAQ on EMR, but I can't find the info anywhere.

Are the remaining HSTs due to be withdrawn by the end of the year, or are they lasting longer? I understand the ex-GC ones have been withdrawn, but what about the ex-LNER ones?

There are only four 180s, so nowhere near enough to replace all the HSTs even with the reduction in diagrams.

HSTs should be staying until May as I understand it.

This is the better thread to discuss the HST future life expectancy:

Expected to be May as just posted, but as of a few days ago a dispensation for use into next year was still awaited. (It may be done but not publicly...)

Only three units will be freed up by the 360 transfer, so it will still be tight

The Corby services at the moment have quite lengthy turnarounds at both St Pancras and Corby so it's more like 4 units. But considering the whole timetable is being recast in May it's difficult to make direct comparisons.

Removing other inefficient parts of the timetable as of yesterday have freed up units too, like interworking trains which were HSTs with those which were Meridians, particularly at St Pancras where the Nottingham HSTs had 70 min turnarounds and at Sheffield where hourly shunt moves via Woodhouse have been removed, allowing them to shorten turnarounds on the slower of the Sheffield trains to around 20 mins saves at least another couple of units.

Yes, I’m sure that many people would love that but the plain reality is slam doors will not be allowed to stay until 2024.

No they are going in May. They won't be needed beyond then because the 360s will be in service.

And the 810s won't be arriving for several years yet - can't see a slam-door dispensation being granted for that long in any case.

Strangely, the reduction of interworking between the incompatible 222s and HSTs has been achieved by introducing a third completely non-compatible train type, the 180.

HSTs only work at peak times now which solves half the problem. The 180s and 222s also have simular performance so they can run on any service really.

Thanks, I'd overlooked the performance aspect.
An HST with what seems to be the standard of 6 coaches could possibly keep to the 180/222 times, but it's the station dwell times of HSTs that slow them down. Watching the 'blue set' last night, the call took about 4-5 minutes - how it has to be, of course, on a station on a curve with slam doors.

A 2+6 can just about run to 222 times but the overall times are longer than that of a 222. A 2+8 set is currently running on a 222 diagram and looking at Real Time Trains it did well going south on a Sheffield fast but on the Nottingham slow it just lost time at most stations.

According to the indicator on the EMR website 2 robin hood diagrams are running as 2 vice 3 today. Does anyone know if these are meant to be 170's or 153+15x diagrams?

Booked 170. No serviceable unit at Nottingham.

180s currently struggling to offer reliable performance. Reports they are not out today. 180111 certainly having traction issues yesterday - but still matching a HST 8-car until one of the engines decided not to engage any traction power and remained idling.

Does anyone know how their diagrams are being covered?

The HSTs are only used in the peak, so possibly that's an option.

From EMR journey board thing the 1945 from Nottingham is a 4 car 222 so I guess the other 180 diagram is a 5 car 222.
1902 Sheffield - London showing as 4 vice 5 car 222.

The following has been HST vice 222 today:
0931 London - Sheffield
1200 Sheffield - London
1627 Derby - Kettering via Melton and Corby
1810 Kettering - Sheffield

On a related note, all three of the ex Grand Central sets are now at Potters at Ely. Two of the sets went down Monday morning and the last one this morning.

Pity!! They are still needed until the 180s reliability improves.
