European Class 66's to UK

Went by Roberts Road today and noticed a blue 66 with what looked like removed name and number plates. I assume it was another of GBRf’s euro imports but just which one I’m afraid I can’t help.

I did begin to wonder if that is 66791 - which retains its Beacon Rail Blue / Gold livery, but has been running around with its nameplates removed for a number of months now. It could be in for a repaint?

I have heard a whisper that the DB euro 66's are all going to be returned to Toton. All the 60's will be dragged over by the bank to make room.
Has anyone else heard this? Or was it just an old ex Toton guy spinning a few...

Aren't the 60s being shunted about to make room for HS2 works? If they are losing space at Toton can't imagine they will be wanting more loco's unless there is plans to start to dispose of the 60s

That's what I thought, he also mentioned something about Toyota cars being loaded onto trains where the old wagon works used to be(which is where HS2 will land). He was maybe imagining things.... all we can do is wait.

It was in half Construction and half Petroleum - something to do with the unveil. It has since been changed to all Petroleum

Makes more sense given that it's largely found itself on the Colnbrook Aviation Fuel jobs. Perhaps it'll change back to Construction if and when GBRf take on some of the HS2 jobs?

The next three conversions from Germany are about to start and will become 66734, 66796 and 66799
The 'donor' locos are set to be
561-01, (796) - Now in the UK
the Ex Commerzbank Class 66 loco now owned by Beacon Rail ( 799)
plus one Germany based loco (identity to be confirmed). (734)

Thanks for the update soccermad. So when did 796 enter the UK? From the posts above in this thread (particularly #95 & #97), I thought it hadn't been brought to the UK yet.

Reported elsewhere that 66796 arrived on Tuesday at Immingham and is now located at Doncaster.

I'd heard that they don't intend to use 66734 again however that may've changed since I heard that
I've not seen any news anywhere to say that GBRF have changed their mind on reusing 66734.
I've seen a TOPS list one one of the 'gen lists' today & the number is still registered in the GBBR pool. The same pool as the yet to be delivered 66799.

Nor have I, I believe one of the recent magazine interviews or press articles stated that they were intending to re-use 734 as well.

I've had a look back at where I saw that originally and now can't find the post now. I can only assume it's been deleted since and that the gen I had was dud, apologies

As I understand it 734 and 351-360 have been registered for 'future use', so that could be weeks or years depending on if and when they can source the locos or if, indeed, they require them

734 is now likely NOT to be reused and a number of these recent conversions are going to be renumbered in order to separate the HTE (hight tractive effort) ones from the std ones

I think you saw my post on another site and I can assure you I haven't deleted it.

EDIT just checked and it is still there on p10 of photos, 4 posts after your post on the same page.

What I was told at Roberts Road in early July by staff there is exactly what I posted on that site and is exactly what was posted by
Soccermad on this site, including the renumbering of 66793 and 66794 to a 66/6 series.

Maybe that intention will eventually change but we will all have to wait and see.

Thanks for the confirmation. I could've sworn I'd seen something somewhere but typically couldn't find it the other day!
