With the Ipswich avoiding chord being approved last month, improvements seem more likely.

So how many freight trains will be cleared from the GEML, NLL and WCML from this, and the other projects such as work at Ely, Peterborough and Nuneaton?

What passengers improvements are planned in their place? More London Overground trains for example? Better Great Eastern services?

How much freight will remain on the NLL?

It is still yet to be determined specifically how much freight traffic will go via each route. There will still be at least some services via GEML (those that are AC hauled) and the remodelling of Ipswich yard so that reception roads 2 and 3 are London and Felixstowe facing only, supports this.

Ultimately nothing comes off the GEML. Ipswich chord and the other upgrades are being done for growth at Felixstowe. In the short term there wll be some that transfer off the GEML, but this will be quickly refilled with suppressed demand.

Also well over half the freight on the NLL isn't Felixstowe related anyway.
