Boreham Wood performed very well in their cup upset.

As an AFC Wimbledon supporter I sadly have to agree. We were embarrassingly poor, but take nothing away from "Wood". Congrats to them managed by one of our ex-players and one of the best young managers on the circuit in Luke Garrard. Not a brill draw for them though - away to Bournemouth.

Chester FC, whose Deva Stadium ground straddles the English/Welsh border, seem to be in a spot of bother with the Welsh authorities...

Link to story below...

Interestingly Welsh clubs like Connahs Quay Nomads, Llandudno, Prestatyn Town, Bala Town, Airbus UK etc with grounds failing UEFA standards have never been able to switch European games to the Deva stadium, presumably as it is in England. They have always had to play at Rhyl or Wrexham.

Maybe Chester should take the proverbial Michael and hire TNS's ground near Oswestry (Shropshire) if no fans are allowed at the Deva. This is shared by TNS (League of Wales) and St Martins (NW Counties League), two clubs playing in different countries.

Could they not just alter the border a bit so that the ground is entirely in England? In return, Wales can have Knighton/Tref-y-clawdd Station!

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
Or alternatively, if the Senedd is so hung up about a club based in England playing at a ground that the pitch straddles into Wales in that they have to impose the Welsh version of Covid restrictions on them, then the likes of Cardiff City, Swansea, Newport County, and Wrexham can leave the English League system and become part of the Welsh FA being as they have their own league system.

That way, those clubs would be representing Wales instead of England in UEFA tournaments.

I thought that - do a land swap. How long would it take? I read somewhere that Chester FC matches are policed by Cheshire Constabulary even though the ground is in Wales. The most likely outcome is probably to get the match played elsewhere, or swap the home and away matches with whoever it is they're playing.

We're already halfway through the season, so swapping isn't going to be an option. The league *could* tell Chester all games have to be played at the opponent's ground, as has happened this season with Fort William (obviously for different reasons) in the Highland League

The land swap could be in Llanymynech, where the golf course has 15 holes in Wales and 3 in England.

This is the second home match in succession where the opposition decided all-out attacking is the policy to follow against Manchester United on their home turf.

But the first team won, and one of the lesser teams from the West Mids didn’t.

DW Stadium continues to be Blackburns nightmare.
Twelve unsuccessful visits since their last away victory there in 2007.
Indeed. An absolute disasterclass from our second choice keeper cost us on Saturday. We've not won an FA Cup game since December 2017, and you have to go back another season for the last time we progressed past the third round.

Unfortunately as TNS play in the League of Wales they have already been forced to close their ground as they have to follow Welsh Guidance.

Still, this now leaves your team to concentrate all their coming efforts on "the big picture", league-wise.

The same can be said for both Arsenal and for Newcastle United, for somewhat differing reasons.

Watford have been destroyed by Afcon. Some of their key players have gone and they have two relegation six-pointers coming up against Norwich and Newcastle

Always a potential issue if the players you sign are likely to be selected for a mid season tournament.

Is it four Watford FC players away at AFCON (William Troost-Ekong, Adam Masina, Imran Louza and Ismaila Sarr)?

I think it is but there could be more.

This is true, and is the general consensus amongst our fanbase. I do quite like a good cup run but it's an awkward distraction this season.

In other news, the latest Sky Sports selections have been announced and we're on TV no less than SIX times between now and the end of February. Sky have never really taken any notice of us so it's more than a bit annoying that they've suddenly remembered that we exist again, I suppose we had a good few weeks flying under the radar.

Championship

Reading 0 ... Fulham 7

That's what you call an emphatic away win.

Not been a good week so far for Reading and their manager Veljko Paunović. Didn't they also get beat 2-1 by Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Cup at the weekend?

Yep we did. Followed up the most embarrassing cup defeat in our history with our worst home defeat in 102 years of which both i was at. Be amazed if Paunovic is still manager this time tomorrow. Hope not cause the bloke is out of his depth and every post match interview is full of excuses.

Geordie back from exile.
Anyone seen the 'highlights' of the Tunisia vs Mali game tonight. ? That was some refereeing going on there. Blew for full time after 85 minutes and again before 90 minutes. Teams left the pitch, Mali came back to finish the game, Tunisia didn't so match awarded to Mali. Absolutely bonkers !!
Apparently this ref was suspended back in 2018 for some 'issues', my thinking here is he may have the same fate or at least should have.

That's bonkers. How can they on one hand demand Chester close their stadium, because most of it's in Wales, even though Wales had practically disowned it up to that point, yet demand a stadium closure when the stadium lies miles within England? I guess I shouldn't expect anything else from Drakeford given some of the bonkers rules that have been introduced before, like stopping supermarkets selling certain products to 'protect local businesses' (because nobody was going to shop online.....) while constantly delaying bringing in masks. I guess it's going to be largely irrelevant now, but it does just seem like another bonkers decision.
