If you've not seen Max's onboard it's been posted on YouTube (though F1 may ask for it to be removed).

There are various video clips at

In the one where Karun Chandok reviews the collision, the on board camera from Verstappen is at 1m47s

Well that was a crazy race. During a wet start, Lando and Checo squeezed Bottas, who ultimately missed his braking point at t1 and took them both out, along with damaging Max's car. Stroll then went spearing into Pretty Boy Leclerc who then spun Ricciardo around, taking himself and Leclerc out (poetic justice imo). This earned both of them a 5 place grid drop for Spa. This resulted in Hamilton P1, Ocon P2. Ocon pitted just before the restart for drys, with everyone behind him following him into the pits, leaving Hamilton the sole driver on the grid with inters on a now bone dry track. He pitted after the restart but wound up at the back in 14th behind Giovinazzi. Mazepin was taken out in the pits by an unsafely released Kimi. This started Hamilton on a last to first challenge. Latifi had managed to find himself in 3rd, ahead of Sainz and Yuki, holding them up and allowing Ocon and Seb to run away with P1 & 2. He initially struggled on the mediums before a switch to the hards changed his fortunes and allowed him to carve up the grid until he got to Sainz, who he managed to keep on his toes until he switched back to mediums on lap 48 (the exact same lap as 2019, when he overtook Verstappen for the lead). He was initially very quick on his charge, looking like he would indeed get P1 by the end of the race but got stuck behind Alonso in 4th for too long, eventually overtaking both him and Sainz for P3. Russel managed to hold off a resurgent but damaged Verstappen for P9.

The initial finishers looked like this:
P1: Ocon
P2: Vettel
P3: Hamilton
P4: Sainz
P5: Alonso
P6: Gasly
P7: Tsunoda
P8: Latifi
P9: Russell
P10: Verstappen
P11: Raikkonen
P12: Ricciardo
P13: Schumacher
P14: Giovinazzi

However, Seb was unable to provide a large enough fuel sample and was dsq'd, with everyone below him moving up. On a good note, Williams got their first double points finish since Monza 2018, when Sirotkin was driving for them. This also moves them up to P8 in the constructors with 10 points. Mercedes now lead both the drivers and constructors championships.

Indeed crazy race, Major Blow for Vettel, and Verstappen, Lewis the only one not bailing for the pits on the restart was bizarre as well as major error on the part of Merc and Hamilton, however it made the race more interesting and Alonso did a fantastic job keeping Hamilton behind him for so long.

I wonder if George was also tight on fuel, as he pulled off just after the chequred flag. In the end it's sad Seb was disqualified after his drive, but rules are rules, Hamilton lost pole in Spain in 2012 for the same reason (and was sent to the back of the grid)

As was said on commentary, had he come in on the restart he would have had most if not all the field pass him in the pits as being first in the pit lane they couldn’t have released him safely.

Where he lost the race was not being able to get past Sainz. Had he done that, he would have been well clear of Alonso when he pitted again (and he may not have needed to).

Schoolboy error. And rather surprising, given the number of laps under the safety car at the start.

There were only a handful of safety car laps at the start. It's more likely that AM (and other teams) had banked on a longer period of wet running and had fuelled accordingly. In the end they got half a lap of wet running, and a lap and a bit under safety car and then straight into normal conditions

Love how you can watch hundreds of races over the years and still end up seeing something new. Never seen a single car start the race before (as all the others were in the pit lane). Closest was that race where all the Michelin runners pulled out and only 6 cars started.

I wonder how they’d have restarted if all 20 cars had pitted, would the red light sequence on the grid just have been immediately followed by the pit lane exit going green?

I must admit pitting at the end of what is effectively a second formation lap, rather than going to the grid, seems a bit of an odd thing to me, I’ve only seen the odd few drivers do it in previous races.

Unexpected winner in podium area!

Alonso won that race for the Alpine Team. Rolling back the years to frustrate his old nemesis allowing his team mate to take the victory.

Also: Hamilton and the restart - was he unable to pit because of the rules with him being leader or simply because he would have had to park up in the pits and let everyone else trundle past before he joined the back of the pack?

Also 2: Bottas wants to be asking for a new deal after that. His first corner billiards really helped his team! He should do more of that and Mercedes wont be able to dump him ;)

Hamilton was in a no-win situation, if he had come in the pits he'd probably been at the end of the train anyway.

The Mercedes garage is the first one in so he'd had have to have waited until everyone passed before being released.

While that may have been an issue I don't think that was the reason, they just plain got it wrong weather wise which is what Hamilton is suggesting they thought more rain was coming.

Even if the Summer Break has started after yesterday's barminess, tommorow is a key date for a certain young Brit!

Williams racer George Russell is to drive for Mercedes on Tuesday as the team take part in a post-race tyre test in Hungary.

Russell will test a Mercedes mule car fitted with Pirelli’s 2022-spec 18-inch tyres around the Hungaroring, two days after claiming his first ever points for Williams with P8 at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

It’s not the first time that Russell has tested for Mercedes during his active F1 career, having also completed tests in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi for the Silver Arrows back in 2019 – while his first ever F1 test was in a Mercedes W08 at the same Hungaroring track in 2017.

Williams' best points haul [in a single race] since Baku 2017.

You've got to be in it to win it, and Ocon did that. After the shenanigans of the first start, he dodged all the carnage and ended up in 2nd place before the red flag. Then when Hamilton failed to pit for dry tyres before the restart and everyone else did, he drove a faultless race with Vettel making minor mistakes behind whilst trying to overtake. Alonso played his part in keeping Hamilton behind him for a number of laps after Hamilton's 2nd pit stop with some on-the-limit driving, but in the end it was Ocon's day

Disappointed for Norris and Perez - wrong place at the wrong time

Dan Ticktum has been released from Williams.
Williams have opted to release development driver Dan Ticktum with immediate effect.

The 22-year-old joined Williams from Red Bull ahead of the 2020 campaign and renewed his arrangement for this season in March.

The two-time Macau Grand Prix winner carried out work in the simulator to aid the F1 team’s car development, while also assisting the team at the factory and race track.

He was dovetailing the role with his second F2 campaign and currently sits fourth in the standings, 19 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri.

However, Williams confirmed to F1.com that Ticktum was released from his role – and their driver academy - last week, with half the F1 campaign still to go. The reasons for his departure remain unclear.

That leaves Roy Nissany, who has driven in FP1 for the team three times this season, their reserve Jack Aitken, and W Series champion Jamie Chadwick in the driver academy.

This comes after a stream by Ticktum before the race, in which he said "scooby dooby doo, Latifi is poo", before following it up with calling him a pay driver and being insulting over it. Latifi of course, being one of the biggest funders of the team.

Turns out, he's still a rather unpleasant person. Will be interesting to see how long he stays in F2 without Williams backing
