The Housman quote is from the 'quietest under the sun' poem - mainly about Clun, etc.

As it's open, I'll try another one

This town has a model village
In the past it could be reached by the Great Western Railway
It has a connection with Brum
the nearby hills are limestone.

If I had said the hills were chalk would the answer differ?

Presumably if the surrounding hills were chalk, the water would have soaked underground, and it would be Bourton-on-the-Dry, or just "Bourton"?

No - an entirely different town in another area is what I had in mind. All the other clues still fit.

Oh, I see.

Then would it be Forest Model Village and the ex GWR station be Lydney?

Not what I had in mind.

Not 100% sure but I don't think the Forest is chalk anyway

The Brum connection with Lydney would be the same as the place I'm thinking of - and different to that of Bourton.

OK - I'll post the one I had lined-up-

My parish church became a Cathedral in 1919.
My centre is currently undergoing development.
The last British Trolleybuses ran on my streets.

As it's been over a week, I'll post another and see if there is still any interest in this quiz.

One of my original stations has been re-opened as part of a heritage railway.
My name might ring a bell.

I'm probably being thick, but how did the ring a bell part of the clue fit in?

That took exactly 48 hours for you to respond...

Yes - apologies for that - I was called away and without wifi for that period, and found your answer as soon as I returned.

Not heard of it

(looks it up)

Have now - thanks

Taylor's Bell Foundry is, I think, only one of 2 still exisiting in England, and is well worth a visit.

No need to apologise; I was merely commenting on the precision :p

I assume the other is in Whitechapel?

---------------------

Go on then, let's do another, and see if interest in the thread holds out:

I am a fairly small town in the Home Counties with a very unusual name. I have no railway station to call my own but I am the main settlement in the catchment area of a nearby station with an equally unusual name. To the south is a village that has its own grammar school.

It is indeed. :D

Is your's Cobham, with the station being Cobham and Stoke D'Abernon and the grammar school being the Yehudi Menuhin School?

Latimer?

Doesn't really fit though

I do like this quiz - but it's difficult (and I know having devised the odd question) to strike a balance between very easy and super difficult.
