Hi.

I'm fairly new to the forum however I'm looking for some up to date information on the types of trains running from GWR Plymouth.

I was recently informed of the following and wondered how accurate this information is;

East Tractions:
800 and 802 class (inter-city express trains)
165 and 166 classes (turbo diesel multiple units)
387 (electric multiple units)

West tractions:
800/802
165,166 and 150s (all turbo diesel multiple units)
There's no electric trains west as the line is not electrified but they are working on it between Paddington and Cardiff.

States "no electric trains west" however I thought that the IET trains ran from Plymouth?

Any information would be greatly appreciated :)

800/802 are bi-mode trains which run on electricity where possible and then convert to diesel power away from overhead lines such as, indeed, the West.

As for everything else, 166s in the east are now very rare and the west also has a large fleet of 158s and 43s.

This now makes sense re the 800/802 trains. Thank you for the Clarity :)

The 158s and 43s are both Diesel powered units I am assuming?

GWRs fleets are better classified as Intercity (800/802/57+mk3), Thames Valley (387, 165), and Regional (143, 150, 158, 165, 166, & short HSTs) than East v West

It would be nice if they where branded as such (like on EMR), the Intercity name on the side of the IETs would look nice .

Both are indeed diesel.
43s are HST power cars, now (in the southwest) used only on the shortened regional sets.
158s are "super sprinter" multiple units.
Electrification is unlikely to get anywhere near Plymouth any time soon.
