Where do they all run and how much stock is there set aside for these workings? Has yours started yet as I have copped the first on my line this morning (SN West Coast Way). Unfortuantley I wasnt quick enough to get the full number, but I know it was a Windhoff MPV Master and Slave, dont suppose anyone would be able to identify this one for me; passed Worthing 8:11 headcode 360H?

We do ask that people use descriptive titles with their threads and avoid using undefined terms like RHTT:

Relevant
  • New threads should be given appropriate, descriptive titles and subsequent posts should remain relevant to the original topic.

Accessible
  • Please remember many members do not understand rail “jargon” (including acronyms, station codes and specialist terms). Such terms should be correctly defined the first time they are used; codes and abbreviations must not be made up.

I have edited this one for you but in future could you please keep this in mind when starting threads :)

They started running three weeks ago and will continue until early December and then run as required depending on conditions (snow, ice etc).

Plenty of them around, certainly. Any area which is forecast to be affected by leaves/moisture or snow/ice will be covered if at all possible.

Many RHTTs in the Southern area are MPVs rather than loco-hauled trains, though severe conditions may merit locomotives being used on snow & ice clearance trains in winter.

Down here in Essex/East Anglia they are being pulled by either two 57s or a mix of a 57 and 47.

I think theres about 3 out on the Great Eastern Mainline and branches at one time. Two met each other at Colchester station the other night, was like a party!

No sign yet of the Hull-Scarborough loop RHTT - much needed thought, very slippery going this morning!

Yep - I was merely commenting that some other areas have mostly loco-hauled RHTTs. It might be a helpful comparison for the OP.

Oh I know - was just confirming that I had seen them out and about. Me lass got a shock down Norwood junction the other day when it went past - not paying attention

The vast majority are DBS operated TnT 66s.
Crewe & Carlisle are operated by 37s
East Anglia sees 47s & 57s
York has DRS 20s!!

Sorry about that Ainsworth, will remember next time :) Are the MPVs just run by NR, or are the contracted out like some of the other RHTTs? And I was surprised that mine were so late this year!
