"Some station proposals are already axed, after the Welsh Government abolished the council consortia which had promoted them. They include Caernarfon, Nelson, Machen and four stations along a disused line through Llantrisant to Beddau."

Incredibly short sighted and, IMHO, stupid if this really is the case. Of course the massively expensive M4 plans are going ahead.

So much for investment and being "green"...

Only to be expected. Most Councillors have a car but many do not understand railways or use them locally. If money has to be saved cut something that doesn't have the support of the majority. That way you retain your popularity as a local politician.

And another thing. Road schemes can often be started and completed much more quickly, an important expedient in political timescales. That can even work to political advantage if an incumbent administration is on the slide politically with little chance of re-election. They can leave behind a Tsunami of hastily and badly drawn up contract terms and commitments (not to mention legislation!) for the incoming bunch to struggle with!

Not the M4 "relief" road it will take a decade to build.

On top of the decades it's taken so far. When I was in South Wales in 1993, exhibitions of alternative routes were being held, so it must have been in planning for at least a couple of years at that time.

Yes, you are correct. The Conservative Government said that if nothing was done, then the M4 at Newport would become a major congestion point within 10 years - as is now the case. Anyway, they lost the election and Labour's Rhodri Morgan came to be boss of the new devolved seat of power in Cardiff Bay. One of the first things he did was to scrap the Conservative plan for the south Newport M4 saying it was not needed.

You are correct about Councillors, many never use the train, The North Wales consortia Taith was made two Councillors from each North Wales County, all had cars, Caernarfon was an aspiration, with the old line being built over with a by pass.
Taith is now defunct, some of the Councillors on the quango had not even heard of the Halton curve or where it was, a shocking fact.
All four quangos have been axed, due to a fallout with the Minister.
At the last meeting Taith only had one Councillor with rail knowledge,he was a bobby at Wrexham, and now in charge of Wrexham CC transport division.

If this is true, then it would be incredibly disappointing. The car lobby wins again. Spending a billion pounds on a motorway is perverse.

Pontyclun is also a mandatory timing point so it will be in all schedules.

So far as I can see (from today at least), all the services 'via' Llantrisant (LTI) show the exact same passing time as that for Pontyclun (in both directions), right down to the half-minute. So I think Paul may be right that Pontyclun and Llantrisant are the same station!

It occurs to me that RealTimeTrains plugs into Tom's sister RailMiles project to deliver a 'fuller' detailed schedule and so this may be a bug (or "undocumented feature") associated with that. It's entirely possible that this won't show in internal railway schedules, or any other sites which pull NR Open Data.

There certainly isn't a realtime reporting point associated with Llantrisant - all services through it show 'No report' on RTT.

Thanks both for clearing that up :)

RTT doesn't "fill in" the timing points for trains on future dates (ie after today), so have a look at a train for a few days' time if you want to see if it's actually in the schedule. Or cross-check with OpenTrainTimes which only uses the schedule.
