LSL RCS 43058 and 43059 "Staycation" set has been released from Eastleigh in its new colours, currently en route to Crewe HS:

Looking a little less like Fag Packet II than the original renderings!
Am I the only one who thinks it looks incredibly tacky? The base colour isn't too bad, altho it's very 'modern GWR'. The silver stripe just cheapens it for me.

I don't like it either, the silver and green together look dated qnd clash rather as they're both quite dull and dark in natural light, the stripe is clumsily thick, the mixed caps logo is very old fashioned, the swoop at the front doesn't work... but I didn't dare say!

Looked great to me when I first saw pics and looked even better when I saw it in the flesh :D

It looks very "first livery for a post-privatisation operator in the late '90s" to me, I'm afraid. It's not actively bad, but I certainly don't like it.

43058’s first proper passenger carrying run (under LSL operation) has begun today while filling in for a damaged 43055, working with 43046 on today’s “Heart of Wales Pullman”.

I wonder what they're last working as a pair was.

Are they sure 43 055 couldn't work? Not been impressed with 43 058 so far what with it failing and causing a two+ hour delay

Either 058 / 059 or EMR branded 047 / 049. I can only presume they went with 058 being somewhat LSL connected and liveried!
047/049 haven’t been out as far as I know since they were stored last year. Bit of a risk using one of them!

What's the status of 083? It was at Eastleigh being overhauled back early in the year.

There is that, though 058/059 wasn’t fired up again until last Saturday.

In pieces around the back of the works, stored with parts donor TF 41167. Both are visible from the Botley line.

So they have plans to reactivate / paint any of the other three power cars? On some days over the summer they are going to need four power cars - so 100% availability required if relying on those presently active.

Presumably that is where 47/49 come in

They're probably more bothered about the "brand reputation": wouldn't want the punters to see a scraped Pullman crest, would we?
;)
More than a scrape if you look for the pics on Twitter!

Indeed! More a gangway shaped indentation. That’s going to be a cab off job - not cheap.

Wonder whether they will 'borrow' the cab off one of their other power cars to speed it up?!
