Influenza isn’t as transmissible as COVID for a start. If it were measles on the other hand…

There was heightened demand for the reasons others mention, at a time when the main distributor took delivery of 2.5m tests and then promptly shut up shop for 4 days for Christmas break.

So instead of spreading in early winter, it usually hits in January or February.
