Hello everyone,

I was wondering if any of you experts could help me.

I need to know if there are instances on the Manchester metrolink where trams go under bridges. I'm particularly interested in the East Manchester line.

I know there are bridges that the trams travel over - it's UNDER bridges I'm interested in.

Many thanks.

Off memory, the East Manchester line passes under

-Great Ancoats Street
-The Network Rail Ashburys-Miles Platting line
-Alan Turing Way

Great Ancoats street underpass is more of a covered cutting than a bridge.

It also passes under Piccadilly station! But only Ashburys-Miles Platting is a conventional bridge, the rest are indeed more like underpasses.

The parts of Metrolink that were formerly railways, Bury/Altrincham/East Didsbury/Oldham/Rochdale, have numerous bridges over them. Incidentally in railway-speak these are known as overbridges not underbridges.

Reckon the East Manchester Metrolink route (as it passes under the Alan Turing Way) curves round so as to also pass under a side street called Gibbon Street.

Are there possibly also overbridges crossing the Metrolink line at Cambrian Street (between Holt Town and Etihad Campus) and the nearby New Viaduct Street (which parallels the Network Rail Ashburys - Miles Platting overbridge) noting that the latter road overbridge might be conjoined with the rail overbridge.

It goes underneath a walkway leading up to the Etihad Stadium.

In order from west to east

Piccadilly station
Great Ancoats Street
Cambrian Street
New Viaduct Street
the railway
A wide bridge at Etihad Campus - is this the one mentioned in the post above?
A footbridge (spanning the retaining walls of the approach cutting to Alan Turing Way)
Alan Turing Way
(still in the cut & cover tunnel under Alan Turing Way, after turning a corner) Gibbon Street

They call all be seen on Google satellite view.

There's probably a cab video on the web in which they can all be seen.

There's a pretty good one that's been filmed but not released yet. I was driving it ;)
