I think SPT are discontinuing the 68.
If this is the case it will certainly be a blow to the local area. It’s not always a heavily used service but it really does provide a vital link and it is the only bus to serve certain stops too. It’s bad enough only once a day, so it’ll be sorely missed. I wonder if SPT consulted with any community groups about its complete withdrawal?

No idea I’m afraid. The 68 wasn’t included in the tender spec this time. The 11 is also being cutback and will stop two hours earlier (at 2115) in the new contract. However, Upper Inverkip and Upper Skelmorlie will get a regular 578A bus every 30 minutes replacing the DRT option they currently have.

Yeah. I assume they’ll be seeking an operating centre on the mainland, otherwise the dead trips could work out rather expensive!
Do you know who’s won the 209? The contract is up in July and I would’ve thought mcgills would be interested.

McGills have been raising awareness of the new face mask requirement by handing out "thousands" of free face masks today.

Not to mention unreliable in winter!

Edit: Though I don't think the ferry runs late enough so they'd actually have to?

There is a old depot in Golf Course Road in Upper Skelmorlie the DJ International used to keep buses.

Mgills is going to have real trouble of this really happen, if Braehead does not reopen

Before covid19 hit the UK, Intu already had debts of £4.5 billion, losses doubled to £2 billion over the last year and the value of its property estate has also nearly halved.

As coronavirus forced the country into lockdown many centres have not been paying rent as they remained closed for the past three months.

But Intu confirmed today that some of its creditors were not prepared to offer a debt repayment waiver of more than 18 months.

Trafford Centre owner Intu Properties warned shopping malls across the UK may have to close if a deal cannot be met before the weekend.

The group, which also owns Lakeside in Essex, confirmed it has put the KPMG administration group on stand-by is hoping to arrange a so-called standstill agreement on terms which at this stage it is unlikely to be more than 15 months.

It emerged earlier this month that KPMG had been appointed to make contingency plans for Intu's administration.

They probably won't be in trouble if it shuts as the businesses will just move elsewhere and McGill's can adjust their services to suit. What the local councils need to do here in the event of Braehead closing is to encourage the businesses within it to re-locate to Paisley etc and perhaps try and get new life back into these town centres. There's too many big shopping centres in Glasgow so losing one isn't going to be a big deal.

There's a lot of town centre shopping centres in Glasgow but not many of them are that big. As far as big shopping centres go there's Buchanan Galleries, St Enochs, Silverburn, Glasgow Fort and maybe Parkhead at a push. Losing Braehead will certainly be a big dent especially as Mcgills only have the 3 and 6 to Silverburn and the 310 for the Fort and 64/164/364 spt runs for Parkhead

The best bet Mcgills can hope for is to either make quicker direct services into the city centre from the likes of Paisley/Johnstone/Barrhead etc or compete harder with First towards Silverburn and the Fort and given the current climate I don't see that happening

Real trouble is an understatement and a half!

The company that owns Braehead is doomed, there's been no financial saviours have come out to save the company and tenants are dropping like flies or will be wanting substantially reduced rents.

Braehead is a catch 22 for McGill's, its a massive customer generator but its also destroys punctuality and adversely adds to journey times.

It used to be I would buy gift vouchers for Shopping Centres rather than an individual retailer as I always assumed a Shopping Centre would never fail.....

Used to go to college in Paisley 7/8 years ago and honestly getting caught in traffic at Braehead was always the worst. Used to either get the 23 to get a 21/26/101 or get a 26 straight and it was horrendous. Renfrew Cross used to be pretty bad too though.

Hard to predict what else Mcgills could really do in order with their services. From several trips into Paisley from Clydebank even the likes of Erskine seem far quieter than they used to be although I'm not a regular Mcgills user so I don't know fully what it's like

McGills have tweeted that they have 15 "Fast Response Team" buses out in Renfrewshire and Greenock to step in when services get busier to allow for physical distancing.

Has that been in place for a while or from just today>

They’ve had a small number in place for some time, but increased the numbers at the start of this week.

PS, Could an admin (or the OP?) delete the Survival part of the thread title? If it did have some relevance, it has long since become irrelevant. Thanks!

The recent inter operator ticket acceptance has finished following First Glasgow withdrawing from it.

The similar agreements with Stagecoach continue.

Johnstone depot also re-opened yesterday, so no more E200MMCs on the 38.

Would be nice for the daytripper to be accepted on McGills , are they accepted on SPT tenders?
