I wasn't impressed with any the Voyagers I've been on so far, so definitely those for me.

For me it's 144s ahead of 142s, simply because they're so ubiquitous round here. Also they're to my mind far more cramped than even the 153/155s. I'm only 5'8" but can't get comfortable in an airline seat on a 144. The "least-worst" pacers are in my opinion the Northern Spirit refurbished ones.

Definately Voyagers - small, cramped, smelly and dim. Most of which (except size) could be fixed by a decent refurb.

I don't really have a unit/loco type that I hate to the point of desperately trying to avoid it.

That said, my least liked stock would have to be the 380s. Compared to my local stock (318s, 320s & 334s), the seats on the 380s just seem a bit too firm (not enough padding etc). That's more of a pathetic, personal gripe with them than anything else, as they are fine units otherwise.

Agree with you on the Voyagers. They could be doing with a refurbishment to convert the interior similar to the Meridians, which would definitely allow more space. If only the XC ones were as good as the Virgin ones...

Those buses at Northern aren't even worth calling by their name <(

Long distance stock, Voyagers and Pendos.
Short distance, 142s.
But even 142s are luxury compared to their predecessor, the 141s, they were really, really bad.

Class 387, and anything with the same painful seats. Should never have been allowed into service like that.

Any Pacer (particularly 142s), Northern 150/2s, 185s, 317s and 378s would be my nominations.

141s were horrible but they had a certain charm about them... They weren't really the 142s "predecessors" though, as they worked side by side for several years. 142s, like 141s, replaced 1st generation DMUs all of which were sadly better than the railbuses!

142s/144s without question. Throw in 66. Aesthetically I really dislike 323s for some reason, not entirely sure why!

Not really a fan of Voyagers either.

Not sure I would use the term 'hate', it's rather emotive. Not fussed on the following for reasons cited;

  • 153's & 155's due to the woeful amount of legroom
  • Voyagers/Meridians due to vibration issues
  • Merseyrail spec 142's as those seats are an abononimation!

As for 442's, they were great in BR days on the Bournemouth run. Probably knackered now due to gross misuse over the last few years!

456's horrible pieces of tat & voyagers.

As for 442's, you lot don't know what you're on about. Best 3rd rail EMU going, it doesn't complain incessantly about a blocked bog, air con not working etc, etc, etc. It's a proper train, with proper brakes!

Class 67. Noise, vibration, wheel slip, useless wipers and a seat that bounces you about like a jack-in-the-box.
