Just had this confirmed as correct by someone on Twitter who filmed them earlier today.
Running order was 018-090-004-070

I’ve heard about 2 pacers operating driver training runs on the York to Scarborough line from January to May 2021

1) Is this true?
2) Where from and when will the units come to York?

Most likely heaton T&R.S.M.D as before like they did this year February 2019. Prior to covid March lockdown. Also think has been mentioned somewhere on here 142058 is one. Not sure other though. However hence why 142058 didn't run much until very recently. Probably for this reason.

1) That's the plan
2) Dunno... I'll enquire.

One last go?
Due to a GSMR fault in the Chester end cab of 150135. It has worked back to Piccadilly (5D54) to await the unit on 5J89 to take it back to Newton Heath, which happens to be 142094...

5J89:

Well, the news certainly reached the public. I had about four random non-enthusiast friends text/message me about the last pacer run (which was ironic, given I hadn't seen the news flash therefore had no idea until they notified me ).

Does anyone know or have any further information on why all the Northern Rail 142s (or at least some of) them didn't last until Saturday the 12th December 2020 timetable change, unlike the other Pacers did with TfW or GWR?

Because wheelsets wasn't the only reason behind this.

Was it because off the final 195 units into service recently?
Or was it maybe the lease/contract with angel trains actually expired at the end of November?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Its just a pity some on Northern couldn't have stayed to the 12th December 2020 also.

Northern claimed that they would not be required due to greater Manchester being placed into tier 3... northern claimed and what the actual truth is are probably completely different things. (Remembering that they claimed the pacers return was to help maintain social distancing, when in truth they were used on services that have always ran as a 4 car. So that was clearly a lie!)

they are still in lease, as several 142's will be used for route learning next year

They didn't want fanfare due to covid, doing it at a predictable date would have drawn crowds.

So what? If you had a service that was 2x150 and became 150+142, what do you think happened to the other 150?

..Went elsewhere to stop another service being shortformed / caped. I’ve seen “Service cancelled due to more trains than usual needing repair at the same time” start knocking around again since the pacers departure. So they are still clearly struggling for DMU’s.

Looking at it objectively, I doubt the crowding would have been any worse than most stopping trains to Shenfield that run every 10 minutes or almost any tube train in Central London. Or a Merseyrail 507 or 508.

Oh dont worry the final train attracted the ire of the Covid social distancing heavy mob so much so that some one apparently reported Northern to the police.

But imagine the same train being done at a predictable date where people from all over the country have decided they want to see them go in person, plus a local tabloid or two writing about how happy they are to see them go also drawing in the public.

I think what Northern did was quite sensible, you can't stop a handful of people showing up unless you announced the whole thing after it happened.

144014, 144019 and 144023 have been acquired by Vintage Trains it seems! First preserved Pacers on the mainline too I believe
