However with toilets having to be locked out now due to track discharge just like the tfw 143s are. Aren't these now due to running solo for this purpose unfit for use because amenities still have to be provided.
Also who's going to train the trainers as even there traction knowledge could be out off knowledge especially on the east side probably no one has driven one for some time.
Wouldn't it make sense for the York to Scarborough route learner etc be a 150/158 etc unit that they will be driving anyway. And that has toilets amenities.
And some off these 142s with a prm unit could have stayed on the rosehill line maybe or the Chester/kirkby ones. But with reduced diagrams and units??
I'd heard that wheel flats and lack of wheel sets was an issue, meaning any further use by Northern very limited. Route learning can still be done without toilets. Southport to Hunts Cross is similar to York to Scarborough time wise and drivers take trains without toilets along this route without issues.

1. Please does anyone have any further information, on the remaining northern Pacers at Heaton T&R.S.M.D Depot as to their future before their remaining lease expires in may 2021. Are they still going to be used for driver training or any possible passenger summer covid 19 strengthening use? Or will they go to withdrawal ?.

2. Also recently some Pacers also went for storage to Wensleydale railway from Heaton T&R.S.M.D for storage during January 2021. Once again any information is appreciated -are there any buyer's for these. Or are these expected to go for withdrawal in due course?

The other half of 144008 (55808) is now at Fagley Primary School in Bradford for conversion into a STEM lab. The school was one of the three winners of the DfT’s Transform A Pacer competition

The rest of the 142’s at heaton are now off lease.

142095 is for scrap

142058 is for the telford steam railway.

142004 saved too, but I have to keep quiet about that one.

142065, 142068, 142070 and 142071 also have homes, although I don’t know where.

The Wensleydale railway had put s pictures on their Facebook page about a recent visit to Heaton to salvage some bench seats from a 142 that I guess won't be there for much longer

To expand on this, it looks like the other 4 are for preservation use, rather than being preserved. So some are going to be stripped for railways, prior to scrap. Others will be going to railways.

According to the Wensleydale Pacer group Facebook page, 142068 and 142070 are being stripped prior to scrapping. So those two at least aren't being preserved.

What is happening to the other 142s that went to the Wensleydale Railway earlier this year? 142018 is being preserved, up what about the others?

Presumably 142071 might end up getting preserved then as otherwise it would have gone to Newport today. Unless 142s can only run with 3 units in multiple?

They can run with 4, but 3 on freight moves afaik.

142071 is still in lease with northern as of the other day.

142068 + 142070 + 142065 have arrived at their final resting place. Won’t be surprised if they’re reduced to pieces by the end of the day!

Have run as 4 before but only on moves to store ie newton Heath T.M.D to heaton T&R.S.M.D or to gascoigne wood
The other moves ie scrap have been 3 only.
Or 142071 might go to wensleydale railway to collect the others there which still could go for scrap at a later date.

Google Maps Gascoigne Wood reveals many Pacers, a few HSTs but also something rather unidentifiable with 10 carriages. It's a fixed set by the looks of things.
