Not sure if anyone has posted this but some interesting facts; https://dataportal.orr.gov.uk/media/1482/passenger-rail-usage-2019-20-q1.pdf

Not least that passenger numbers are rising, eg "Nationally, the number of passenger journeys increased by 10.4 million (2.4%) compared to 2018-19 Q1, driven by a 3.0% increase of journeys in the London and South East sector."

We need to be adding similar levels of capacity each year to an already overloaded infrasructure with overcrowded trains. Challenging indeed.

It shows Southeastern with healthy 5.6 per cent growth and yet capacity shortages coming on 1st Jan as Class 466 aren't ready for disability regs so must run in multiple. That means taking stock away from mainline to branches.

That 5.6% growth was against a reduction of trains operated of 0.1% as Thameslink took some routes. Delays to the future of the franchise are going to hurt.
