Seems to be 142045.
TWO new arrivals at a village school are helping to get pupils onboard a new initiative.

Kirk Merrington Primary School, near Spennymoor, is creating a library and a wellbeing centre in two disused railway carriages.

A surge in pupil numbers saw the school outgrow its existing facilities and the previous library turned into a classroom and the books moved to shelves on the corridors.

The school fundraised and worked with Network Rail to acquire a disused pacer train, and volunteers from the company laid track for two carriages to stand on.

Wonder what Network Rail had to do with it - given that 142045 was neither owned by or operated by Network Rail, and was presumable not delivered to the school on Network Rail infrastructure (unless there's some new track they've been keeping very quiet about)!

The answer is in the post above: "volunteers from the company laid track for two carriages to stand on". I take that as being Network Rail volunteers.

I'm led to believe that Network Rail volunteers carried out work to install railway equipment such as track, sleepers and ballast, for the carriages to stand on.

I hope a GWR br class Pacer 143 is recused and a TFW unit

plus asides from the Swindon and Cricklade no longer aquiring it

I do recall roumers that South Devon Railway we’re looking at acquiring a couple for their railway this has yet to happen. Unfortunately many of the GWR ones have had to get their Tyers replaced. So hopefully we will find out which units are being rescued eventually at the end of the year.

Wonder why FNW never replaced the original seating whereas other TOCS all did unless they once were thinking 175s would replace them

I think some of the early operators in the North were slightly prone to thinking "**** it, it'll do" about the less glamorous areas of operation. Northern Spirit by contrast were all about the flashy modern liveries and improved interiors, but fell somewhat short when it comes to simple things like not making a load of your traincrew redundant and having to cancel services as a result.

Myself and no doubt many other passengers will have been pleased that the FNW 142s did not get the Merseyrail seat 'upgrades'!

Oh god, I’d forgotten about those. Horrible, hateful things. To be fair to FNW, the installation of the large luggage racks were a good idea, presumably these were done for pacers serving Man Airport?

Wikipedia has 144018 and 144019 as preserved by the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway. Is this accurate, as I haven’t seen this reported anywhere?

Since I've been busy over the past few months and with Christmas coming up, I'll finally be able to update the list. This will be done both on here as per the current listing and also as three PNG images to help alleviate mass scrolling for those who are using the site on their phone.

From what I also gather is that Northern's final class 142 in service was 142004 on the Kirkby diagram.

144018 is for the Mid Norfolk railway. Their Instagram page shows that 1 vehicle has arrived so far and the other 2 are on their way.

VINTAGE TRAINS ADDS THE CLASS 144 PACER TO ITS ROLLING STOCK PORTFOLIO
· 3 x 3-car Class 144 Pacer sets offered to Vintage Trains by Porterbrook Leasing
· Regular operation planned
· Pacer used to expand VT offering into the entertainment sector and new audiences
· Initial focus on West Midlands routes

Someone at Vintage Trains must have had a good time on one of the Penistone line music trains... and maybe had a bit much of the real ale!

Good to see there'll still be the opportunity to ride them on the national network for the foreseeable, given that COVID put paid to the proposed "running day" on the Penistone that Northern were planning.

Excellent piece of work on the update @NorthernSpirit

Couple of quick amendments:

142's ex TfW

Only 002, 073, 074 & 082 are stored at Landore. They will go to Newport for scrap, with 082 likely to be going next week.

010, 075 & 076 while withdrawn, are still at Cardiff. They 'may' come to Landore or maybe kept at Cardiff if there is space, before going to Newport for scrap.

012 was at Landore, but went for scrap in Hereford on 6th October (along with 079)

143's ex GWR

611, 620 & 621 came to Landore for storage on 17/12/20, and will go to Newport for scrap.

Cheers.
