More than that. 5th formers at my school were getting "Dave 4 Tracy" or "SWALK" tattoos back in the early 1980s
Is that from a movie that was filmed in the Clapham Junction area and quite alot of various railscenes, including Weymouth?

As a recovering Christian, Be aware of the wrath of God, Leviticus 19 v28

Er... isn't this one of the many Old Testament stipulations which are, nowadays, binding on Orthodox Jews; but which -- under the "new deal" consequent on Christ's death and resurrection -- don't apply to Christians?

(I couldn't help smiling a little, at this post's number of same for you at the time of its making, being #666 ;) ...)

Erm...Probably? Depends on who you speak to. Some Christians would argue it's still in effect, and others would argue it's not. Much like the 'traditional' interpretation of Leviticus 18:22, which many scholars argue has been taken out of context and mistranslated. But that's a whole other debate for a different kind of thread, and I could quite easily go on a lengthy rant about that kind of thing. :p

In the 70's in my home town it used to be only Sailors and Ladies of the night who had em, something changed and now more people seem to have them than not.

Personally I would have liked one, but on medical advice didn't - I've got unusual blood.

Another planet...
I have one, an outline of a cat on my left forearm.

I do think tattoos are one of those things where "less is more" is a good rule of thumb.

I agree. I have a minimalist kangaroo on my right leg, which looks kinda Picasso style if you get what I mean.

the yoof of today love a tattoo. They often look great. I wonder how they will look when the same person is 50 and, erm, swollen...........................

My mum said that to me when I first told her I was getting one. She told me to consider that I’d have it when old and wrinkly too.

I got the first of my several tattoos 25 years ago.

I don't plan on getting any more, but I have one which is a work in progress.

How it gets finished depends on if my daughter has any more children or not.

On the other side of the equation: I went to uni with someone who was ex navy and at least twice as old as we were. He was covered in really bad tattoos but is now a top level barrister. i think the key is to keep them in places where they wont be seen.

My rule for myself is
1) Discrete place
2) Minimalist/small
3) Only get it if it has sentimental meaning

I got this earlier today which is what inspired the thread. It’ll look better when the hair grows back hahahaha felt so odd to have it shaved.

No longer here
I don't have any, but mostly because I have never wanted any design on me that I could see staying for my whole life.

I only have one, a small male+male symbol just above my left hip (my left, everyone else's right). It symbolizes my coming-of-age struggle and my way of showing the young men having similar struggles now that things can and will get better.

No. Would never have one, and think that at least 90% of them look cheap and trashy.
Personally, I think there is nothing nicer than a woman with clear unblemished skin.

When your arms are fully covered with tattoo it's very hard for nurses to find a vein to take blood

I really, really like this.
Thank you. :) It's a deeply personal tattoo as one can imagine. I wanted something subtle, but also distinctive and impactful. This was the design that inspired my final choice:

Luckily, it ended up not costing us (me or my parents) a penny, as we had been given a voucher for a local tattoo parlor by a close family member and decided to use it for this.

After years of dithering, I've finally made an appointment to get my second tattoo done next weekend. Only been nearly eight years since my first one, and over two years since I came up with the idea for the one I'm getting done, but the fact remains it's happening at long last. :)

Which is why no reputable tattooist would tattoo anyone obviously under the influence
One of our very retired family friends became teetotal after a somewhat boozy night out when he was a young soldier resulted in his wife querying why he now had a foxes tail tattooed on his backside. He still can't remember a thing about it.
