Railway Station Cottages (www.railwaystationcottages.co.uk) brings together holiday accommodation for railway enthusiasts, to facilitate the ease of booking such accommodation. The idea arose from my own difficulties trying to locate a holiday cottage near a railway. Often properties were hidden several pages into Google, and there was no central website for booking railway properties.

Railway Station Cottages (RSC) acts as an information portal, with accommodation booked directly with the cottage-owner, and links can be created to the owner’s website or agent’s website. RSC is searchable by region, and type of accommodation (station, cottage or carriage), and users can also select specific criteria for their ideal property. The Map of Properties shows all the properties listed on RSC and the locations of the heritage railways so that holiday-makers can see which properties are near each railway.

If you are a property-owner, RSC offers an affordable and easy way of advertising your property online. You can advertise your property for free on RSC until 31st December 2014, and you are under no obligation to continue after the free period ends. There is no catch – we need the website to grow to be successful and you can only gain from additional free exposure that we are offering you to the holiday market. A subscription fee is payable for advertising in 2015 – prices start at £50 for the full year. More details of how to advertise are available here: http://www.railwaystationcottages.co.uk/advertise-your-property/.

63 properties have joined RSC to date, and the website is now attracting over 2,000 visitors per month, with this figure steadily increasing each month. For many of the main holiday searches, Railway Station Cottages appears on the first page of Google, Bing and Yahoo search results. Our aim is to become the first website of choice that holiday-makers will visit to find their ideal railway accommodation.

If you would love a self-catering holiday near a railway, why not have a browse on www.railwaystationcottages.co.uk. Please don’t forget to mention Railway Station Cottages to the property-owner if you make a booking.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us at [email protected]

Just had a night at the Sidings near York/Thirsk. This was a birthday present by her indoors. The evening meal was excellent, breakfast has a little to be desired, the cooked breakfast comes with no fruit juice , no cereals . The accommodation was a little tired but suspect it has been allowed to run down as the owners had applied to build a very large hotel on the site. Planning permission was refused, so hopefully a refit might happen. It was an experience.

I'm thinking of staying in one myself either as a carriage or station as a treat.

Will have a good browse as it seems quite interesting, prices do vary a lot of seems.
