Judging by the infographic found on page 10, it seems to me like we are pursuing a NZ type of approach whereby local authorities will be put into a higher tier after just a small increase in cases.

So in other words copy another country that has had problems trying to surpress it and backfired, this won't go well.

Its also in line with the UK regarding distancing and keeping masks on even after vaccinated, there shouldn't even be a need for this going into spring/summer regardless!

We may see some restrictions magically vanish by May as the election looms.
Funnily enough I was thinking t he exact same thing. Around 2 weeks before 6th May to catch postal voters.
Pretty certain that Nicola's popularity may have have taken quite a hit. Hopefully......

When she says "data not dates" I think the "data" she is thinking of are the opinion polls for the Scottish election rather than the COVID-19 figures.

reading on twitter under hashtags #nicolasturgeon #tier3 - seems to be the announcement has gone down a storm   - not a good look it seems, so one wonders is will she backpedal and open up a bit quicker to catch up with the rest of UK?

Hadn’t noticed that actually. On having a look, I’ve seen 1 positive tweet compared to about 50 ripping the announcement to shreds. :D
I would hope it’s brought forward but I’m really not holding out any hope though.

All depends on the data ;)

Not Covid related data, but how popular she is in the polls

In her 25th poll people say yes! ... who believes polls these days?

I rather believe in a tooth fairy than a poll

Further to add 3 weeks to decide who goes where! Is this Big Brother Scotland

Chief Mammy: Dundee come to the diary room lol

But don’t politicians or councillors look to social media for opinions, I thought that was the world we live in? Oh wait I forgot more likely if supporters have tweeted her or the rest of the SNP the mute/block button will be used!

What an insult to British Citizenship. As an English person living in Scotland, I feel seriously unwelcome at times. What a vile woman/government.

Lockdown has had an impact, down from 330 cases per 100,000 at start of January to just over 100 today.
I’ve just checked the governments own levels for the different tiers from last year - today’s figures are Tier 2 nationwide. Data not dates?!

If that’s true in a way as much as people say in terms of the UK, then I can say Sturgeon herself has moved the goalposts (quietly)

I am confused it says some shops open April 5th but some late April? Would this maybe allow retail parks to open 1st?

I envisage it'll be garden centres from April 5th and non-essential click and collect. Everything else will probably be between April 26th and whatever date the election is.

In all fairness I don't think she likes Scottish people much either.

I have always took it as depends on the part of Scotland you come from (Sturgeon), clearly Glasgow is her favourite as it’s the place she’ll delay locking down or as previously if numbers are high throw the rest of Scotland in it.

I've noticed she's given very minimal detail on pubs,
There must surely by now be a sizeable number of those involved in either ownership or management of the Scottish pub industry wondering if it’ll very soon be time to throw in the towel completely.

I know this has been voiced at a UK level but it makes you wonder if this is being done on purpose? Examples as people say is vaccinations but lets go at a slower pace or for us an even slower pace by a month or so.

I'd hate to say it, I'm starting to agree. It's worrying that at first Sturgeon blamed the pubs who abided by all their instructions.

What is the vendetta they've got against pubs? Trying to make the Scottish public healthier?

If it does come out in the unlikely event that this is targeting Hospitality, the parliament will be targeted by a lynch mob.

Again if anything is to go by ... probably trying to ban alcohol as a vendetta (your guess is good as mine on that)

This has been doing the rounds if you want to say conspiracy/tinfoil hat twitter (again I have nothing against the line of thoughts on that either but it does put some in perspective/possibility)

https://www.nature.com/articles/482302a (from 2012)

and the first part quote...

The World Health Organization is the only body that can promote health through the use of international law. It should make alcohol its next target, says Devi Sridhar.

I can take it that Nicola isn't a drinker these days so why not?

I have friends in Kilmarnock, and when I last spoke to them they said to me "..Sturgeon hates pubs...." (their words not mine)

If you add to that the fact that a confirmed nutcase last Devi Sridhar says that "..it should make alcohol its next target...", it is not surprising that hospitality in Scotland is being targeted.

It seems some people are using COVID-19 to pursue their own agendas, which have nothing to do with getting case numbers down or "protecting the NHS".

Fully agree with you here!

Or look at it another way they don’t care about the public it’s all about media and ego

I've often thought that lockdowns would be thought of in the history books as similar to Prohibition; not necessarily evil, but just stupid.

I don't think it takes a tinfoil hat to assume that public health specialists would at the very least neglect pubs. Their primary mission has been against the demon drink for years. Ultimately public health seems to be more of a cult than an academic discipline, and should probably be drummed out of our university system.

Last part she can take a hike!, so its OK for politicians to enjoy cross border travel but not the travelling public, sorry nah!
2021 summer holiday options look like they have just become even more limited. I have already pretty much ruled out continental Europe, it seems like Scotland might have to be ruled out too.

Does that mean that the England - Scotland border is likely to be shut over the summer?

If so then she can stick it.

It won't be shut over the summer. It's not shut now.
It's shut now for anything other than essential travel. It looks like they intend to keep that restriction in place even if she deigns to let us out of our local council areas because she's going to push for a one-region zero-Covid panacea.

I applied to University of Edinburgh in 2008 as a backup choice (1st Year entry so got 3Bs).
Engineering works meant I ended up taking the sleeper to Glasgow and a train across for the interview.

Seemed a nice place.
I went back a couple of times because my mother's old work colleague lives in Edinburgh.

Don't really fancy it any more, I really don't want to be wondering whether I'm going to get harangued in the street because of my accent or anything like that.
Suppose it's the way it is.

That really isn't the way it is. I've never heard a bad word said about my accent in Edinburgh. Can't say the same for London. There are some politicians trying to stir stuff up, but most people are fundamentally decent
