There's also a rumour here in Devon that the GWR Castles will be going to Scotrail, replaced by 5-car IETs and that 387s will take over Padd - Cardiff. But it might be just that - a rumour.
Definitely just a rumour that ScotRail are taking them. Why on earth would ScotRail take on more HST sets?

Well ScotRail aren't exactly smitten with their HSTs from what I understand, so I don't understand where the rumours came from. I'd bank on it being the other way round and the Inter7City sets are replaced by new trains.

Well its true that short IETs are being looked at to replace the GWR castle sets. Nothing concrete though.
Realistically they won't be going anywhere until full 769 introduction, at the earliest. Then they will go straight to SIMS :lol:

I had my first Scotrail HST trip yesterday on the 1345 Queen Street - Aberdeen as far as Stirling. I have to confess that I was rather disappointed. I was seated in a TS near one end. The vestibule doors were stuck open, the seats were a bit uncomfortable, and most annoying/concerning, there was a loud and easily felt "bang" every so often from I assume the bogie.

Hopefully you raised the issues with staff on the day and could move seats. It's possible the sticking door could have been sorted out by someone taking a look and adjusting something.

14 sets were out today, including 3 five-car.

Sadly HA13 failed at Dundee, working 1A59 the 1041 GLQ-ABD.

Also, regarding the Cardenden workings that I have bolded, would this put the First Class (although declassified) coach at the wrong end of the train for the next passenger working assuming it continues round the loop?

First class could be at either end. Due to them not always working back and forth on the same routes (and some of their empty moves) can result in the Set chopping and changing which direction they’re going round in. Especially in the example you have mentioned above.

Don't believe there is a set end for First Class. Many diagrams interwork over 2, 3 or even 4 routes so can end up in any orientation over a days duty.

Edit: as an example of FC orientation - of the 17 HST departures from Glasgow Queen Street today, 10 had First Class at the tunnel mouth end and the other 7 at the buffer stop end of Queen St.

Been there a while. In fact there was a second such working some months ago, removed a few weeks after the December timetable change - a full anti-clockwise morning turn IIRC
All of the former 68+Mk2 diagrams became HST operated from the December timetable change, but it didn’t last very long at all as the reductions came in - one even failed on the first day of the HST’s doing the lot.

Currently only 3 of the 7 services originally planned to be HST operated are actually HST operated (The Cardenden service each way and a morning Edinburgh to Kirkcaldy service, they’re all listed above) and I can’t see it going back to the full 7 anytime soon - possibly never.

First class could be at either end. Due to them not always working back and forth on the same routes (and some of their empty moves) can result in the Set chopping and changing which direction they’re going round in. Especially in the example you have mentioned above.

Don't believe there is a set end for First Class. Many diagrams interwork over 2, 3 or even 4 routes so can end up in any orientation over a days duty.

Edit: as an example of FC orientation - of the 17 HST departures from Glasgow Queen Street today, 10 had First Class at the tunnel mouth end and the other 7 at the buffer stop end of Queen St.

I f I read this correctly (and forgive me if I am wrong) - but that indicates that only 2 weekday services from Inverness direct to Glasgow Queen St are HST's? If so that pretty poor!

Thanks - sorry I missed one on the original list - 4 is a bit better - but the 0845 from Inverness to Queen St still makes no sense - it misses the connection from Kyle by about 3 mins!!!!! Come on Scotrail - sort that out!!!!

Easily done when the workings are in diagram not route form.

Sadly it gets worse, the Kyle arrival becomes 0850 in May, missing the Glasgow by 5 minutes and reducing the connection into the 0855 Aberdeen to the minimum 5 mins.

Looking at Yesterday's diagrams out of Inverness:

3 of 4 services to Edinburgh were HST's (one runs via Aberdeen rather than Perth)
2 of 4 services to Glasgow were HST's
5 of 10 services to Aberdeen were HST's

And four of 11 services down the Highland Mainline are HST's with one IET!

15 sets were ready in the morning but two failed.

Today however 16 sets are out as diagrammed!

Seems strange that more are used on the Aberdeen Service - you would assume that is more lightly loaded?
