Settlement Association

With the Station Association Quiz having gone slightly off the rails of late (pun not intended), it has been suggested that a new quiz to run in parallel to it is created. Thus, as requested by several others, I present to you all

The Settlement Association Quiz!

This works in exactly the same manner as the Station Association Quiz, only this thread concentrates on the thousands of inhabited locales instead of their railway stations. As such, a small request has been made in the Station Association Quiz to keep everything in that thread railway-related from here on.

To give an example, I will compare two settlements in Northern Ireland. From Bangor I would go to Sydenham, because both share their name with a location of similar prominence in Britain.

And with this in mind, let us begin with the London suburb of Sydenham.

----------------------------------

Rules:

  • Repeating any of the previous three clues or names of settlements in a link is forbidden (you can of course quote a previous post)
  • Associations provided should be clearly dissimilar to each of the previous three associations.
  • Settlements may be anywhere in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland (Éire), Isle of Man and The Channel Islands.
  • A description of the association should be incorporated in each posting, without simply posting the name only.

Droitwich Spa and Royal Leamington Spa both are spa towns; the latter being a saline spa.

Cheadle is the nearest town to a major theme park, as is Chertsey.

Chertsey home to some production shots on the film Italian Job, shares this with Coventry as it was also filmed here.

Chippenham is the local major town to a prominent motor racing facility. The same is also true of Corby.

Ringwood like Chippenham is a market town situated on a River Avon, albeit a different one to Chippenham.

Um... I know I said this in the other thread, but... Chippenham had been. The new location was Corby.

To simplify things, one that matches both. Both Ringwood and Corby have a similarly-sized town fairly close by that has a similar reputation for how "nice" a place to visit it is - Christchurch and Kettering. (Unfortunately for Kettering, that's not a good thing.)

The same can also be said of Battle (the other location being Rye).

Controversial? Meh.

Although no longer true from an administrative perspective, Maidstone and Luton are both major hubs of a certain bunch of idiots that Ivo does not like and almost certainly never will.

No that has to be one of the laziest links possible.

Both Liverpool and Birmingham have a road in the city centre by the name of "Paradise Street". Liverpool's is far more important however.

(Whether Birmingham's really is a paradise or not I doubt, but Liverpool's has been improved greatly of late.)

Norwich is another fairly (but not overly so) small city that has claimed to be England's Second City before now.

Telford buses school pupils to a neighborouring town to attend grammar schools (Newport) as does Sevenoaks (Tunbridge Wells in that case).

Sevenoaks was a town that suffered greatly at the hands of the 1987 storm. Worthing suffered similar damage.

To Paul, thank you for joining in; hopefully this awkwardness of the last day or two can be laid to rest now.

Four Oaks is a place on the Cross City line with a number in its name just like Five Ways...
