I needed to be in Penzance on Monday night, so it seemed rude not to have a leisurely journey down, taking in a few shacks as I'd not been to many places in the south west.
The Sunday SWR trains to Exeter were terminating at Axminster, so that helped. A few days of great sunny weather helped too.

I went up to COP-26 (on the Megabus as it had to be overnight & I couldn't afford the Caledonian Sleeper). Cowcaddens, Bridge Street, Kinning Park, Exhibition Centre, Shields Road, Anderston over the course of the day (all these are new stations, the underlined ones being NR because I wanted to distinguish them).

The next day I tried to make up the discontinued Daytripper buy buying a Roundabout & the shortest-distance ticket across the Glasgow Plusbus boundary. I failed because Scotrail ticket machines are absolutely hopeless; they won't sell tickets from other stations, so I had to physically go to Patterton (not crossed off because the return working was the same Desiro I had going out), only to discover that Scotrail ticket machines don't sell Plusbuses anyway (it wasn't because I was too close to Glasgow; it wouldn't sell me a Plusbus to Edinburgh either). The guard on the train told me to go to the ticket office at Central, but they told me they couldn't sell me one because I was in Glasgow.

At least I still managed to do the full Cathcart Circle. Scotrail no longer run route O, so I got off the N at Cathcart, walked to Kings Park & returned to Glasgow on the M. It was very well-timed though, with the M calling at Kings Park just a couple of minutes after I got there.

I also took the D out to Paisley Canal, returning on the Gx (or was it a W) from Paisley Gilmour Street before taking the Subway out to Govan. I now only have three subway stations remaining, these being Ibrox, West Street and possibly Hillhead.

On the way back home I scored Preston (easily one of my favourite stations in the country), as well as changing trains in Blackburn, before arriving into Salford because it's slightly closer than Victoria to Manchester's miserable coach station for the night NatEx back to London.

Total new NR stations from this trip: 9.

I count standing on the platform, having arrived by train though when the station is an awkward one (Polesworth for example) then i accept travelling by other mode.

For me it’s: arrival or departure by train but not the same train service, unless there is a sufficiently long wait that a non shack-basher might also get off. Getting off a train at a terminus and leaving on the same unit is ok ( different services) but “ leaping from one unit to the next in a 1 minute station stop is not. I allow myself unscheduled rail replacements ( as long as I can still access the platforms). Makes places like Pilning and Polesworth a challenge, but nothing that shoe leather and a bus timetable can’t resolve. Mind you, still got to work out the logistics of the likes of Shippea Hill - but that’s half the fun!
I’m also aiming to get photos of the lot but still have a load of those to catch up on from the days where visiting stations was just a side-effect of catching trains!

For me it's board or alight, changing units/getting back on the same train doesn't count unless it terminates at that station, and when it does terminate it still doesn't count if I don't actually get off - I have a couple termini still to revisit because I stayed on. I try to leave the station and look around but it's not a necessity. I don't count photo stops and it's same rules for all shacks regardless of service level

So other than the photo stops (which I suspect for me is almost academic anyway, other than allowing me to include a couple of long-closed stations, as I've probably "properly" visited most photo stop stations subsequently), I think we two are singing from the same hymn sheet. At some point I'm going to have to bite the bullet and start chipping away at all those stations with minimum service where it's too far to walk comfortably to anywhere else. The fact that most of them are on the other side of the country so getting there and back in a day is a challenge in itself doesn't help....

Spending time at the station would count and taking a photo would count for me. Another opportunity to big up the pub at Manningtree Station especially when the sun is bouncing off the nearby estuary.

What do you mean by "uses"?

Getting on/off a train for changing trains or entering/exiting a station. For completeness, if probably obvious, by stops I mean just being on a train that stops at a station where I don't get on or off (as was the case at Ilkeston last weekend).
