I was browsing through the departures at Leeds this evening (Sunday 25th June) and I noticed that 2T58 2218 Leeds to York would be worked by 153363 on its own. A quick look at last Sunday’s departures reveals that this unit that arrives fresh from the depot is coupled up to the unit that would have just worked 2N72 2031 Sheffield to Leeds, although this isn’t operating today due to a shortage of drivers.

So I ask, how is a solo non-PRM 153 allowed to work on its own and will this service run at all?

Here’s a link to the working - https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:G56691/2021-07-25/detailed#allox_id=0

It's worth noting that RTT isn't always correct or give the full info. It won't tell you, for example, which 153 was on the 2I07 18.53 Wigan-Leeds last night...or even what the 158 was with it!

It's actually formed of 153363 (ex-5T00 on unit diagram NL022) and 158861 (ex-2Y17). It's not a booked join so RTT isn't correctly reporting the allocation.

Solo 153s aren't permitted anywhere on Northern under any circumstances now.
