There seem to be a few threads about songs you react to, but I think this is a new category.

You are having a pleasant day listening to the car radio, when suddenly this song comes on. You scream and turn it off immediately because you really, really can’t stand it.

Mine is ‘Young at Heart’ by The Bluebells. I have no idea why but I just absolutely detest it. Of course things like ‘Grandma, we love you’ would provoke a similar reaction, but they aren’t likely to come up on mainstream radio.

Over to you but I bet ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ comes up before post #13. I can just about bear it…

Edit: the other two I thought of were ‘Another Day in Paradise’ by Phil Collins and ‘Common People’ by Paul Young. I can rationalise these: they are both sanctimonious AND crap.

‘Wake up Boo’ by the Boo Radleys.

I detest that song with a passion that it really doesn’t warrant…

I don’t go that far because I tend to listen to Radio 3 at times when I reckon there should be something reasonable on: even Steve Reich is not enough to make me switch off (although not by much). The two things I do not like are Country & Western, with British C&W being particularly disliked, and modern jazz; I am not keen on opera (except for Carmen).

I have just remembered that I dislike the song Fish Heads.

Do you know, I think I struggle to listen to that too…I wonder what it is?

I don’t know. There’s another one that I’d put next to it in the bin of cack and that’s You get what you give by The New Radicals.
Actually that’s an even worse song I think!
It’s something to do with overly commercialised Indie music…

Those are prettymuch what I would have chosen! Bohemian Rhapsody does make me reach for the mute button, in fact anything by Queen does.

Any song with one or more of the following:

A significant proportion of the song is “rapping”
Air horns
Clearly autotuned vocals
Stock MIDI sounds (especially if poorly quantised)
Screaming/shouting vocals
An out of tune kids choir
Guitar recordings where the sound of moving along the fretboard is louder than the guitar!
“Lazy singing” which sounds like the singer has a cold
A drum machine (especially with claps)

And worst of all

Anything I’ve played on - I hate hearing myself!

that Ed Sheeran song; the one that sounds like another song, if that helps narrow it down :|
All of them then :D

In all seriousness, whilst I’m not his hugest fan, Sheeran is far from the worst out there these days! Many singers spend their whole career auto tuning their way through I - V - VI - IV songs and when they try to sing live it’s almost hilarious how poor their vocals are without the magic of the editing :D

I thought he'd won that court case? ;)

For me, I can't stand Metallica. The wife thinks some of my music choices, whilst eclectic, shouldn't be foisted on her ears.

However, we both agree that Mariah Carey has no place in our listening pleasure.

This X Factor audition (although the dead silence in the theatre once they finish singing and the Judge's comments are worth watching).

Anything by Oasis (except for Roll With It, which was presumably their "stopped clock" moment).

But the winner of this for me has to be "Where's Your Head At?" by Basement Jaxx. For some reason it was really popular when it came out, despite sounding like a being at a dentists during a shortage of anaesthetic.

I’m glad to find that I’m not the only Bohemian Rhapsody hater
There are millions of us out there and we've only just found our voice ;)

The Carpenters - We've Only Just Begun, Top of the World and all the others that I've gladly forgotten about.

Hate Layla, l know l'm in the minority.
Whenever I hear that, I'm always disappointed that it isn't the shortened instrumental version that used to be on the Vauxhall Cavalier adverts. The main riff is great, but the song as a whole seems like it doesn't know where it's going, and the less said about that weird piano interlude towards the end, the better!

must be 4/5 years ago I watched the Top of the Pops Christmas day show, and the amount of dance-pop tracks that started with the same keyboard rhythm - and slightly different tune - became increasingly hilarious as the show went on (in fairness, an amount of alcohol had been involved by this point)
