The platforms at Gilfach Fargoed are very short, only being able to accommodate a single carriage; at Tir-Phil, however, work to extend the platform to take the proposed six car trains has now been completed.

In 2016, a petition (so far unsuccessful) was started by a local resident calling for the London Travelcard Zone 6 to be extended to include this station, as well as Esher and Hersham stations.

Falconwood station seems to be the only one on the Bexleyheath Line that does not have Accessible access; one that does, however, is Welling.

Coleshill Parkway is another station managed by a Toc that doesn’t operate any passenger trains to or from the station.

Merseyrail's Northern Line separates after Sandhills to go to Southport and Ormskirk. Bank Hall is the first station towards Southport, whereas Kirkdale is the first one towards Ormskirk.

Merseyrail’s depot is adjacent to the station, whereas one of TPE’s main depots is very near to Ardwick station.
