No rejection email here. Asked to progress from application to doing questions and then left at that.

Nice one! Yeah, feels like a huge weight has lifted of my shoulders!

That's not a bad shout about Liverpool , can't do any harm having a go!
Yeah, you gotta be in it to win it. I’m not close enough to apply for Liverpool unfortunately but I would have done if I was a few minutes closer! Literally a few mins over the 45 mins that Northern want! How did you find the computer tests and MMI if you don’t mind me asking? Did they let you know at the end that you were passed and in the talent pool? I notice one forum person saying they are still waiting to find out after their MMI.

Hi all

For anyone that has completed the MMI, do you know if you are allowed to take personal notes in as an aide memoir, please? I have done this before with a previous job interview, they were fine with it, as long as I left my notes with them afterwards.

regards

No you can’t. You will have access to the examples you wrote beforehand which will be a few lines for each question, that’s it.

Yeah, in the past I was in the same boat when wanting to apply for a position in Crewe, literally a couple of minutes over!

On reflection I'd say the computer tests were OK but I was definitely more concerned about doing them, simply because you can't really prepare for them.

I know some people said they found them easier and they probably are to be fair, but I was more comfortable doing the paper tests as I put a lot of preparation in for them.

In regards to the MMI, as long as you remember what you wrote down and you've got a basic structure prepared for each question I wouldn't worry. I got the impression that they really aren't looking to fail you and will try and get what they need from your answers.

Just had an email update. I've passed the 2nd stage computer assessments I took last week and have now been placed in the talent pool.

Over the moon !

Nice one congratulations!

What day did you do yours last week? There were 4 of us on the day including myself when we did ours and we all passed the computer tests. Didn't find out if everyone passed the MMI as well though as you had to leave immediately after the interview.

I'm in for Chester as well. Let's hope they start putting people on courses in the not too distant future and you never know, we could end up on the same one.

When did you initially apply?

I applied in March and did my computer/mmi tests on Tuesday last week, I was the only one for Chester that day.

As said above we were specifically told it would be a week before hearing anything, and true to their word that's how it's panned out.

Did they deffo tell you straight away after the interview? As you say we were escorted straight out afterwards and there wasn't any immediate feedback.

Anyway yeah hopefully there's a course soon but I'm happy waiting whatever it takes.

I’ve heard nothing. But how do you know the rejection emails went out?
I get the impression some depots mayhave heard already. Camarthen was mentioned further up the thread.
Also there are people at various stages from the last few rounds of applications so it’s hard to judge. I’ve not heard anything other than the Acorn we will be in touch E mails last one 14/08.

Interesting to see how this one pans out for people who joined the queue late and haven’t yet done the tests / MMI.

Where is testing conducted if anybody knows?

I suppose it depends where you've applied for.

I think Chester is their biggest station in the north and that's where I did the paper tests but I've also applied to work out of there.

The computer tests and MMI are done in Cardiff. I'd imagine they do the paper tests there as well depending on whether Cardiff is closer than Chester to the station you are applying for, but I could be wrong on this.

I’m now in contact through emails with an actual human now, my recent email was to ask my national insurance number before discussing next steps of the process, is this a good sign?

Evening All,

appreciate I'm late to this so may have missed the boat slightly but could someone let me know about the "If you have been through the interview or assessment process for a Trainee Train Driver role (in any location) within the last six months"

I applied for a trainee role for West Mids but didn't get past the initial scenario questionnaire. As this was a different company does this mean I will be okay to apply for TFW role?

Thanks

I’m assuming yes you are fine to apply for this role as you haven’t been to the interview etc

They asked for my NI in preparation for the assessments so I'd say that's a good sign!

They seem to be progressing people in different ways as I had my DMI before the first assessment but some people are going straight through to tests after the initial paper sifts.

Thank you!! Really hoping for positive news.
What is DMI? Yes from what I’ve read people are being put through different tests, assessments etc at different times.

DMI is Driver Manager Interview.

I had this first before anything else. Usually a depot manager and I had one member of the training team also join, and was held on Microsoft teams due to the current situation. Worked quite well i thought, helped relax the nerves doing it from home .

Hi have you done the psychometric assessment before a I’ve passed mine but failed the DMI but hoping to make it through this time. It’s a very tough process the whole thing before actually being accepted onto the trainee train driver course

If you failed the DMI does that mean you lose a life in terms of your two chances with the psychometric tests?? Or is it classed as being separate?

Failing the MMI, which is part of the national standard process, is a chance lost.

Not joining a depot when the TOC's Driver Manager then wants to talk and measure you up is not a lost life.

Hi, no this was the first time I've been through the process.

DMI first, then onto assessments one and two on separate days and yes you're right, the whole thing is very tough, especially on your mental state!

I've also applied for Northern now that all the assessments are done and feel no where near as apprehensive about it all.

If I manage to get through the sift (odds are against you at the sifting stage of course) then it's only the DMI and that's it!

Pretty much like a normal job!

Somewhat similar to that. Quite a few different tests but mostly based on reactions, pattern matching and coordination. I actually quite enjoyed them... :’)
