Firstly, this is not a question about the Round Robin ticket....

We're visiting Llandudno for a few nights later this week, and would like to spend a day travelling over the Conwy Valley line to Blaenau Ffestiniog, and then the Ffestiniog Railway to Porthmadog. We would return by the same route as outward.

Some old stuff on here from November 2011 (thread now closed) has "Andrew99" saying that there's a through fare available to to MINFF/PTHMDG FR (H074) that would cover this journey.

A quick look at brfares.com gives a through SDR fare of £7.15. Can anyone confirm that this fare is likely to be readily available -without much scratching of heads in Llandudno ticket office-, and that a PRIV version is indeed available.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The PRIV version is available, though whether it will be found quickly I don't know, though I can't imagine there would be a problem, they may have more problems getting PRIV on the ticket than the destination as MINFF/PTHMDG FR.

FR offer a discount on their fares to PRIV holders anyway. So if needed you can get two separate NR and FR PRIV rate tickets. Although the through fare would be cheaper so hopefully you don't have any problems getting that.

Thanks for your responses.

In the end, the ticket was readily available, and issued in seconds. No problem getting the PRIV discount either.

All in all, an enjoyable day out; the scenery on the Conwy Valley Line was superb and the weather perfect.

The Ffestiniog was friendly and as well run as ever despite problems caused by poor coal on Double-Fairlie David Lloyd George.
