The thread : L & Y Railway North Mersey and Docks Branches / Liverpool-Southport /Crossens services got me thinking that it would be interesting if we were able to exchange amongst ourselves scans of passenger/working timetables. Not whole timetables, often our interest is centrered on a few services in a given region. I am particularly interested in Merseyside/Southport/Wigan/Manchester. I have a good collection of timetables dating from 1948, but have lost most of my collection from the 1970's early 80's that were disposed of when my parent's home was emptied.

As a starter I would be intrested to have a scan of the LMR timeable from May 1976, showing the short-lived Southport- Liverpool Exchange Expresses.

I'd certainly be keen on that- I wonder if even more useful would be timetables copied into a spreadsheet type format? I have done this with passenger WTTs from the Ormskirk line in 1969-70.

and there is timetableworld.com. Something we can all contribute to. So we can all share each others collections. They will take the owners scans, or will flatbed scan if appropriate, or can use a book scanner*. Google CZUR ET16 to see the kit used.

*Flatbed scan can break the back of bound books as it requires the book to be opened flat. a book scanner does not need the book flat, and has software to correct the curved pages and make a 'flat' image.

I've already checked out Timetableworld; to be honest, the content is- or at least, what interests me- rather limited.

I'd be very happy to scan a few pages for anyone who had a particular request.

Here are the 1974/5 (on two rows) and the 1976/7 timetables. They are both from May to May. I have the one in between somewhere.

TTW is stuff people have donated scans for. If everyone took your view, there would be no site. its actually a group volunteer effort, that has come from nowhere in a short 18 months.

And here are the 1970-71 and 1957-58 tables, if of interest.

For a collection of working timetables, mostly GWR / Western Region, I suggest this site:

I have been taking some photos of timetables in the Liverpool area from the LMSR Passenger Timetable for Summer 1928, and when I get time, I will convert them to pdf files and post a selection here. If anyone is interested in other branch lines, please reply to this thread. But, please - do not request any busy main lines - the tables are much too long (e.g. WCML is over 30 pages long). About 3-4 pages will have to be my limit.
I also have a pre-WW2 LNER timetable, if anyone is interested.
Note that replies may not always be rapid.

Are there not also copyright issues affecting the BR produced all-systems timetables?

I understand Network Rail owns the copyright and Timetable World were in discussion with them about obtaining a licence (or something like that) to display those under 30 years old.

Attached are pdf files (each about 15 Mbyte) from the LMSR July 1928 timetable, showing the Northbound & Southbound services between Liverpool & Southport, including the North Mersey line between Bootle & Aintree.

Sorry - files were too large to upload - I will try to edit them to a smaller file size, hopefully not losing clarity.

Second attempt:

Thanks for those. What I really wanted was the Southport- Liverpool Exchange timetable (n° 105 ).

That would be most appreciated 8-)
Here’s the 1975 to 1976 timetable for Liverpool exchange to Southport. I will add some others over the weekend.
