In last year’s thread many proposed journeys included a weekday Marlow <> Bourne End <> Maidenhead <> Paddington leg, as there are no longer through services most of the day. From Manchester via Reading would be equally valid I think.

Another popular source of spurious changes was a destination on the Isle of Wight.

You could also go Man Picc-Milton Keynes-Clapham-Bognor. That’s also less changes

If walking/tube allowed then....

Stourbridge town - Junction.
Stourbridge junction - Moor Street
Walk New Street
New Street - Euston
Tube to St Pancras
St Pancras - Sittingbourne
Sittingbourne - Sheerness

Gives 5 trains and NRE says 6 changes

A the moment, Clitheroe to Hellifield requires changing at Blackburn, Bradford Interchange, walk to Forster Square, change again at Skipton.

Despite them being about 15 miles apart with a railway line between them...

Or Blackburn and Leeds. Or Bolton and Lancaster. Not the fastest or cheapest I admit :)
