What about the 385s? I recall seeing images in 2015 or 2014 of them.

IEP was 12 years from the start of the project to the first train in service. In contrast, in the 12 years between 1970 and 1982, BR designed, built and tested a prototype HST and ordered, built and commissioned 95 production sets.
On top of which, from 1978 to 1982 they also licensed the HST power car and bogie designs to Comeng in Australia, who with assistance from Brush and the RTC made a number of significant alterations to the designs, then built and tested several prototype cars, then built and commissioned four five-car XPT sets and two spare power cars.

I'm surprised no-ones mentioned the 200 '94xx' 0-6-0 steam tanks ordered by the Great Western from private builders in 1947, the last of which weren't delivered until 1956 - more than 20 years after the LMS had stopped building steam 0-6-0s in favour of diesels
Underframes for Southern Railway coaches of Bulleid design were (I think) constructed during the war but were not bodied until much later. In the interim, they were stored in the open.
