All lines blocked between Rugby and Coventry, currently estimated to be till 11:00

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/174875.aspx

A road vehicle fire earlier this morning has caused damage to a bridge between Rugby and Coventry. This has resulted in all lines being blocked by engineers due to potential structural damage caused by the heat.

A structural engineer is currently on site assessing the bridge.

Trains are currently unable to run between Rugby and Coventry. Journeys may be delayed by up to 90 minutes. Some trains will be able to divert via Stafford. We anticipate disruption will continue until 11:00.

Road transport has been requested between Coventry and Northampton calling at Long Buckby and Rugby.

Buses are expected at approximately 09:00 to operate between Birmingham International / Coventry and Rugby.

Customer Advice:

London Midland customers may use:

  • Virgin Trains between Birmingham New Street and London Euston
  • Chiltern Railways between Birmingham and Marylebone
  • Local buses routes between Birmingham and Coventry on the following bus routes: 11A, 11C, 14, 59, 97, X1, 5, 18 and 18A

Virgin Trains customers may use:

  • London Midland between Birmingham New Street and London Euston
  • Chiltern Railways between Birmingham Moor Street and London Marylebone
  • CrossCountry between Birmingham New Street and Coventry

Was caught in this. Arrived at Northampton to find all trains going to New Street were cancelled. Well done to LM, though, there was a rail replacement mini bus in place to take us to on to Rugby and Coventry. For some strange reason this mini-bus didn't take the M1, but regardless, when we got to Rugby, trains were going through again, so we all jumped on a Pendo, and I arrived in Coventry only 20 minutes late. So well done to all involved!

Got 'bustituted' back home today from Brum International after giving up on getting to work (nice coach though).

Staff were improvising and no passenger information methods reflected reality or each other. My LM train initially stated to BHX then she (TM) announced it would continue to New St.

I was impressed that they gave up on barriers, 1st class lounge policing etc so that staff were all available to help passengers. Today's highlight was a child on the bus yelling 'There's IKEA!' as we entered Coventry ring road towards the station.

One lady said 'but I only have a train ticket' as she approached the bus stops. There were about 9 coaches waiting for instructions outside Cov when I got back. All in all, good work.

All lines were closed at Bletchley for just under 2 hours due to a person hit by a train, also in the vicinity of another service. Severe disruption with trains being held in platforms as far afield as Preston and Lancaster. VT ticket time restrictions have apparently been lifted for tonight. Numerous ticket acceptance options in place. Lines have just fully reopened.

Correction to the above - Fast lines are still shut through Bletchley, probably until 1500ish, but services are moving on the other lines.

1D85 just went through 181L. 1H21 to follow but moved to Slow lines still. Any idea on the originally affected service?
