The only thing they should be scratching their heads over is the lack of end gangways.I was referring to the train as a whole in terms of looks

Looking closely at renders and photos, the 196s seem to have a slightly different carbody structure, with five windows in the centre of the carriage between the passenger doors. On the Northern units, there are only four (larger?) windows. This has allowed for the 196s to align the seats better, and fit more rows.
At Zaragoza or Newport? The first Class 196 has started to be built.
Interesting. The 196 featured in the West midland trains presentation must have been a mock up or something of that kindThe first Class 196 has started to be built.
The first few in Beasain and then the rest in NewportAt Zaragoza or Newport?
Do you have a link to this picture, im interested to see how the livery looks on themJust found a picture on google of it and it looks to me like the same body shape as a 195 but with smaller windows between the doors to make it 5 rather than 4.
What routes will these operate
Birmingham New Street to Hereford and Shrewsbury and a few services on the Snow Hill lines.
To replace 170’s and 153’s isn’t it.
Dont forget the 150s. 172/0 replaced them tooTo replace 170s, 172/0s from LO were to replace 153s.
I thought 172/0's replaced the 150's as the 153's still operate with WMR until the 196's arrive. To replace 170s, 172/0s from LO were to replace 153s.

I prefer this front end to the 195's. The concept art for the 195's are still the best looking.Oh boy those Civities look ugly...
Heres a pic of a finished driving end in spain
There's something about modern end-gangwayed units I actually find very attractive that I can't put into words!Looking good! Can't wait to see these in service.

They're in-service between-unit doors to allow units in multi that are all so-fitted to be walked between as one train that can be walked through - the same as on 150/2s, 153s, 155s, 156s, 158s etc, and also more modern 172/2s, 172/3s, 350s, 375s, 377s, 379s, 380s, 385s, 387s etc... do those classes of unit also have the same problem...?Doesn't appear to give a good view on the offside due to the emergency door in the middle.

Ah right OK... It obviously passes regulations though. Yes the 360s were going to have the doors but there were concerns, and there was the 385 windscreen issue, but still...The more modern units have this problem as I recall the older units don't because the door is flush with the rest of the front (or sufficiently so not to have sight issues).
