    Southern - Conductor - Selhurst (27/05/24)

OBS jobs are advertised very frequently. They have vacancies multiple times a year. On average these jobs seem to come up five or six times a year. They were just advertising for some in March 2024 a few months ago and then again at the end of last year. In contrast i have found out that the...

Queensland in Australia makes all public transport cost just AUD0.50 (GBP0.25) per journey for six months.

They say it is an experiment but i think it is almost guaranteed to be a huge success. Anywhere else where low fares or free fares have been done have seen a huge success and increase in ridership. I think the USA and Canada are the only two countries where something like this might not be...

Methods of door operation and despatch and staffing onboard trains.

Southern are the same. On the 171s the Guard can use any cab panel or any saloon panel in any part of the train and can be in any unit they choose and hop between units at stations. EMR are not the only one.

Ah that is good to hear that TPE allows that. So it seems it is just LNER and Northern that have this policy of the Guard having to remain in the rear unit only. To be honest more all TOCs should allow this as otherwise the front unit basically becomes a free unit as the Guard will never be able...

Queensland in Australia makes all public transport cost just AUD0.50 (GBP0.25) per journey for six months.

It has just been announced that all public transport in the state of Queensland in Australia will cost just AUD0.50 (GBP0.25) per ride. This is apparently a six month trial starting from Monday the 5th of August in 2024 this year. But the government have said that they will look at making it...

    Southern - Conductor - Selhurst (27/05/24)

Southern currently have a vacancy for a Conductor at Selhurst depot: https://gtrailwaycareers.com/jobs/vacancy/conductor--2266-train-crew-depot---selhurst/2284/description/ I thought this was worth posting in case anyone is interested as Conductor jobs at Southern are very rare and only one...

Methods of door operation and despatch and staffing onboard trains.

Lumo is DOO and the ambassadors have no involvement in despatch or operating doors. So the Driver opens and closes doors and despatches themselves at all stations. The ambassadors are not safety critical or guaranteed and the train can run without them if necessary. They are basically just a...

Methods of door operation and despatch and staffing onboard trains.

Why did Northern plate over the saloon panels? GWR and TFW seem to have no issue with them. It seems to me like a good idea to have these as it means that the Guard does not have to return to the rear cab at every stop. Is there a particular reason why Northern did not want them to be used...

Methods of door operation and despatch and staffing onboard trains.

On the 165/166 they never used that method. On the 165/166 it was always Driver Open Driver Close with ten bell despatch (they switched to Driver Open Guard Close around 2020 after modifications) but ten bell door release was never used. So the 180s were unique in using the ten bell door release...

Methods of door operation and despatch and staffing onboard trains.

From what i understand i believe on the 222s the Driver has to select the amount of coaches if necessary and then activate the Guards panel first. So it is still Guard Open Guard Close and the Guard has full control of the doors. But at every station the Driver has to first press buttons in the...

Methods of door operation and despatch and staffing onboard trains.

Southern 171s are full Guard Open Guard Close on both the London Bridge to Uckfield and the Eastbourne to Ashford services. The Driver currently has no involvement in the doors on either route. However this has had a complicating history. On the London Bridge to Uckfield route it has always...

Methods of door operation and despatch and staffing onboard trains.

In recent years we have seen such a huge variety of new door methods and despatch methods used. We have the traditional Guard Open Guard Close and then the Driver Open Guard Close and the Ten Bell methods too. But then you have all these new methods like what GA on their 720/745/755 and MR on...

    Gatwick Airport monorail timetable data.

Does anyone know where the timetable data for the Gatwick Airport monorail is coming from? https://bustimes.org/services/inter-terminal-shuttle-gatwick-airport-south-termi It says it is from Traveline but where are Traveline getting their data from in the first place? The timetable is...

    Juxtaposed Controls

I would rather we just stopped each train twice and did border control at Cheriton and Coquelles instead. For the UK to Europe trains we would stop at Cheriton for exit checks and then Coquelles for entry checks. For the Europe to UK trains we would stop at Coquelles for exit checks and then...
