That was a remarkably late start for a weekday considering there were no less than 44 earlier bus departures from the bus station, 10 rail departures from North Western station and 7 rail departures from Wallgate station, all of which are under half a mile of each other.

OBSERVATION

None of those referred-to services served the crematorium at Carr Cross, of which I have unfortunate memories of as one of my classmates from the first year at secondary school ten years later married a girl who was my second cousin and his memorial service was held there. He lived in Scarisbrick towards the end of his life. The bus that I chose was the first bus there from outside Wigan North Western railway station on a Monday morning.

Please note that the embarkation point was outside Wigan North Western Railway station, not Wigan bus station as you stated and only a few of the bus services departing from Wigan bus station actually call at Wigan North Western Railway station and it is quite an uphill walk from Wigan North Western railway station to Wigan bus station, having done this countless times in real life.
