I'll have a shot. Concerning the board for the game "Risk" (object, military conquest of the world): various largeish islands and island nations are omitted from said board, as irrelevant to the game / liable to cause confusion. Looking here, for instances of islands of significant size -- as big as or bigger than, say, Cyprus (which is omitted from the board -- and since cited here, Cyprus is not eligible as an answer to the question).

Please give three instances of omissions from the "Risk" board as above.

If I remember they rather rudely ommit New Zealand! Plenty in Europe, Crete, Corsica/Sardinia , Malta etc and loads in Asia- Taiwan for example.

Grand -- this gets you, amply, the requested three. The omission of New Zealand -- galling though it likely is, to Kiwis -- is understandable in the game's context: its version of the "continent of Australia" is already something of a cul-de-sac -- inclusion of NZ would uselessly intensify, what is already cul-de-sac-ish.

Your roll of the "attacking" dice...

In some desperation -- the refrain of the song The Lincolnshire Poacher is, "It's my delight on a shining night, in the season of the year". That could be read, as a moonless night when the only things shining, are the stars: for evading gamekeepers, the darker the better.

There was a firm called Starlight Entertainment (Lincoln) that was dissolved. Don’t think that’s the answer though!

Is it anything to do with the musical Starlight Express? -- though I have no idea why.

The song is Thriller. Don't know of the connection to Lincolnshire though. Was the composer or lyricist from Lincolnshire? I know he was English and I can't remember his name.

Correct the connection is Thriller.

The late, great Rod Temperton from Cleethorpes - the main songwriter and keyboard player from Heatwave worked with Quincy Jones.

He wrote Rock with You & Off the Wall for MJ's first solo album & then wrote a song called Starlight for his second. That title/lyric got changed to Thriller and the rest is history.

There is an interview on Johnny Walkers sound of the 70's from the other week and they play the demo of Starlight before the change of title.

Your moonwalk.

I think it may be time to alter the question slightly.

What are the next three terms in the following sequence:
An Is
Hy
Ma Ga
Ca Ni
Ic Ca

With no action for nearly 24 hours -- could it be (suggestion by my brother) anything to do with the Periodic Table of Elements? I could see no obvious connection with same; but I haven't a clue about science stuff.

There's no connection to the Periodic Table, either. I'm more thinking of something the younger members of the forum might have played as they were growing up...

I'm quite surprised no one's got this after four days, so I think I'll reveal the answer and open the floor up.

The sequence was the levels in Sonic 3 (and Knuckles), thus making the sequence

Angel Island
Hydrocity
Marble Garden
Carnival Night
Ice Cap
Launch Base
Mushroom Hill (Valley)
Flying Battery

Take it way [[next poster]]!

Hmph. I'd not have been spotting that any time soon, and that's with the wife playing Sonic CD next to me! :/
(Mind you, I'm more familiar with the Sonic 2 and Sonic CD levels than Sonic 3.)

Here's a question to fill the void, a bit of a railway/general knowledge hybrid.

Which of the following trains is the odd one out, and why?
Orange-Blue-Brown
Yellow-Orange-Brown
Orange-White-Brown
Brown-Grey-Brown
Red-Red-Brown
Brown-Green-Brown

Well, judging by the amount of brown in there I'd guess that these trains are from the 1970s, but that's about the limit of my knowledge unfortunately.
