So one second ago, you didn’t know were the Bathgate DIs were keeping there trainees and now you know there is two. But I know three trainees at Bathgate back ? And someone else knows some.

Behave.

anyway talking on this is boring,

Trainees any issues ask your LLC or CC. Your jobs will be safe there taking on more. Some may be waiting till next year before there back. Nothing I can say will chnage that, it’s not great but it’s movement.

peace out.

If you read the question that was asked before diving in to have a dig you’d have saved yourself looking stupid, but I’ll say it again so read carefully this time.

There are 2 DIs at Bathgate, 2 at Motherwell and 2 at Yoker that have said they’ll take trainees.

You said they’re out, I said I haven’t seen any of them, but what would I know, I only share depots and mess rooms with them and handover or takeover trains to and from them.

Ive been in Waverley every day this week and haven’t seen any trainees there either.

 I couldn’t care less whether you believe me or not. Why are you even asking me anyway, are you even based in the north Clyde? Why aren’t you asking your DI or DTM? I’m sure they’ll be able to give you the answers you’re looking for.

Why are you even asking me :frown:

 that’s superb

Cause you post on here about being here being there seeing this one seeing that one but you don’t ask . Just because you haven’t seen any trainee out driving doesn’t mean there aren’t any out. Are you even a DI ? What depot do you actually work in ? .
I have all my answers. Stay home stay safe and be paid every 4 weeks

 Ive already told you how many DIs are prepared to take trainees In the north Clyde. If you don’t believe me ask your DI or DTM.

Ive posted on numerous occasions that the majority of DIs don’t want to take trainees and that the majority of DTMs don’t want to do in cab assessments. Again, if you don’t believe me you know who to ask.

If you think you know better or can find anybody to contradict what I’m saying then post it rather than getting worked up about what I’m telling you.

Just wondered if your in and out of depots bothys the Waverly and then post bits and pieces on here giving it the big I am.
I’m in the north Clyde busy area blah blah blah
Why didn’t you ask any of the instructors you have seen. That was the question I asked you and your reply is ask your DI DTM. :D:

.However around Glasgow, as 90% of trainees don't have a DI anymore, maybe someone driving around that area could ask a DI when they would be going back to taking trainees out? That would move this discussion forward from trading schoolyard insults.

Fwiw I've spoken to DIs in Dundee Perth and Aberdeen, most don't want to take out trainees.

Wouldn't be surprised if some sort of extra payment is negotiated to get them out again though. "Danger money".

This page is becoming a bit of a running joke, it’s actually quite sad reading. On one hand you have trainees airing their clear frustrations with some maybe going a bit beyond what they should be doing on a public forum and it’s not helping their cause at all, but I can understand it with what’s going on. And on the other you have apparent “senior bods” from the company Taking time out of their days to comment about how useless trainees are and how they won’t be returning anytime soon. They are quick to forget that everybody started somewhere and that they won’t be fresh out of school and this won’t be their first job, those days are gone. Some pathetic behaviour in the last page or so that will no doubt be drawing attention from within bothys/management.

Can I remind everyone that the purpose of the jobs and careers section is for the friendly exchange of information and advice on railway careers.

Unfortunately I have had to delete a number of posts (mainly involving the same two posters) that were definitely not complying with that requirement.

Please can all posters be polite and respectful to one another and stick to posting information and advice about the topic of this thread - Scotrail Trainee Drivers.

thank you.

Any trainees, I think you should have a email out from the company ? Saying there working hard, long road ahead but will sort it. I was seen one today,

Trainees job safe and they will hire more etc.

Chin up.

Was there any timescales mentioned within said email?
The only reason I ask is because I am v keen to apply for the next round of recruitment and been keeping a close eye on the situation for months now.

I’m sure they will be prioritising getting existing trainees fully back up and running first, before recruiting more. However, just curious to know if they mentioned dates in relation to next recruitment.

Thanks in advance for any info

I would apply if I were you. Trainee train driver jobs don't come up every day, especially if geographically, you're limited to Scotrail. The worst that will happen if you get through would be to enter a holding pool/talent pool until you get a start date and you can stay in your current job until then.
The more trainees there are, the more DI's will be needed.
Good luck in your application!

Thanks, I definitely plan to. Unfortunately, there are no vacancies at the minute and there hasn’t been any for a good while (as to be expected).
My initial query was to see if Scotrail indicated, within their email, when they are looking to recruit more trainees.

No timeframe was indicated, however it does seem to say that they plan to recruit new drivers. Best thing to do, aside from checking their jobs listings is to register with recruitment sites which Scotrail use, that way you'll get email alerts as soon as it goes up.

Many thanks for the info. I will do this and hopefully something comes up soon

Hi

I think as it stands they are interviewing from the previous round of applications at the moment those in the holding pools but did hear they will be looking to recruit a lot more once things get moving again due to natural attrition hope this helps in the mean time loads of info on here about the process of application advice having a look at the start of thread and working your way through to prepare I used this thread lots of great info minus recent stuff of coarse

You will be waiting a long period of time. I will be surprised to see external recruitment for the central belt for years. If I where you I would be flexible and be willing to relocate elsewhere or look for something else.

You might not be waiting a long period of time, a large recruitment campaign was paused due to COVID-19. So keep checking and fingers crossed something comes up pretty soon. If I were you, I would pay no attention to one of the resident doom and gloom figures on this thread.

This is pie in the sky stuff. Covid isn't going away any time soon and we all have to live with its consequences. Multiple backlog of trainees all in the house, limited number of dtms and dis carrying out training which is not shifting any time soon. Added too passenger numbers reduced severely so demand for drivers reduced in long run. Train driving vacancies will be so limited in the next few years that they will quite rightly remain internal. Hence the reason I suggest to the poster that they should maybe consider something else and work from within to get the job!

If you get the opportunity to become a train driver don't ever pass it up. If you have to wait a significantly long time before you start training still go for it. These opportunities don't come along that often.

It is extremely disappointing that despite the request that people treat each other with respect has seemingly been ignored almost immediately. I would strongly advise anyone who wishes to participate in this thread or any other thread keep this requirement in mind. If you see something which you disagree with you are welcome to do disagree with the poster but must do so respectfully. If you see something which you thinks breaks the Forum Rules or otherwise causes concern then please Report this using the Report button (found on every post) and do not reply.

Please ensure going forward that this thread is a
friendly place for people to seek information and support regarding trainee positions within Scotrail.

The latest memo out today from the union states that ScotRail intend on cutting the service by 100-200 trains a day come the Decmeber timetable. As a trainee, sitting at home and not expecting to be back this year, this worries me for my job.

I will give you my thoughts. Once again only my thoughts.

The company just sent you and email this week saying your job is safe and they will hire more also ?
The email says, we would struggle in the future due to retirement.
The reducing services won’t be an overnight thought. It will have been in the pipeline.

The government are paying the bill. So scotrail are reducing services I think:

- pointless as it’s dead.
- hurts there time raiting.
- some deports are lacking drivers and Rest day working is needed.
- guards are voting to strike.

Reduced services will effect you zero. You wouldn’t have been driving any of them anyway, your hired for the future. If you were paid off it would not be due to this.

Do you happen to know how many services a day SR ran pre covid?
