All of the ones in the West Midlands are subleased from EMR back to WMT - if you’re talking about repainted ones, they are 504, 509, 517 and 533.Can anyone confirm which units Class 170/5s have been sub-leased from EMR back to WMT? I know 533 and 517 are as I have seen them in EMR purple, but WMT branding, I am assuming from the above comments there are others too?
It’s not happening anytime soon if at all. The 171s are not leaving Southern until a replacement is sorted and there is no indication that will be happening. Indeed they are looking are looking at electrification so the diesels will still be needed for 7 years?I apologise because this has been mentioned but are the 171s still coming from Southern with the TfW 170s or is it just the Wales 170s arriving now?

I suspect it’s about time we all collectively ignored the 171s. Water under the bridge as far as a move north is concerned. It’s not happening anytime soon if at all. 170273, it had a refurb whilst at Greater Anglia not very long ago, before it's brief stay in Wales.Picked up an EMR 170 yesterday evening. I wasn't familiar with the style of the interior in terms of red carpet, grey upholstery, and which TOC would have previously had it, but it was notably clean, unworn and smart (compared with the ex Scotrail and Ex West Mids/LMR(?) units). It was a 2 car unit. Must have been refitted no so long ago int he great scheme of things.
Smartest interior of any EMR fleet I have been in recently (and that includes the Meridien fleet).
Thanks @LowLevel - interesting to know.170273, it had a refurb whilst at Greater Anglia not very long ago, before it's brief stay in Wales.
I did 170506 nice and freshly painted.Just seen a freshly branded EMR 170/5 speed through stafford joined with an XC 170 heading back to Tysley. Didnt catch the number though.
It’s a shame crew aren’t trained up to Liverpool on the 170s - would be a huge upgrade over the Sprinters used on that route, which IMO is the best route the 170s could be used on at present with EMR instead of local stoppers.170503 was booked onto the 07:57 Norwich to Nottingham (158 takes over to Liverpool), I believe this was to cover a failed Sprinter but now the journey is instead cancelled (restarted from Nottingham). This would have been the first 170 on the Norwich service had it actually ran
I would say the most important route for the EMR 170s is the thrash up and down Stoke bank at 100mph - staying away from the high flyersIt’s a shame crew aren’t trained up to Liverpool on the 170s - would be a huge upgrade over the Sprinters used on that route, which IMO is the best route the 170s could be used on at present with EMR instead of local stoppers.
Might of come back yesterday as there is a return path in RTT:It seems 170510 went off to Crewe today. I had 507 down as already being there, so maybe another purple train arriving in the West Midlands very soon?
Not yet.Anyone know if 170512 with EMR yet? Thanks in advance
Temporarily that service is booked for a 2 car 170 to allow traction knowledge retention for Norwich traincrew.A reliable source says that 170532 worked 1L08 Nottingham to Norwich today. If my sums are right, it should be on 1R78 back just now.
I think saw a 170 in platform 1 at Peterborough a few days ago at about 3pm so perhaps they already are. When will the 170's be working the Doncaster to Peterborough services?
Before the timetable reduction there was a 3 car diagram for part of the day between Lincoln and Peterborough. When will the 170's be working the Doncaster to Peterborough services?
It was a 170 on either Monday or Tuesday, at the beginning of this week.A reliable source says that 170532 worked 1L08 Nottingham to Norwich today. If my sums are right, it should be on 1R78 back just now.
Completely agree - I think the bid was made without an understanding of the actual operational characteristics of 170s. Looked great on paper, but in reality they don't do so greatIt’s a shame crew aren’t trained up to Liverpool on the 170s - would be a huge upgrade over the Sprinters used on that route, which IMO is the best route the 170s could be used on at present with EMR instead of local stoppers.
Will be a 170 until further notice - so Norwich traincrew can maintain their competence on 170sIt was a 170 on either Monday or Tuesday, at the beginning of this week.
